I buy books at the airport on the way out - once you've gone through passport control. They're books not yet on sale in paperback in the UK, and they don't add to your luggage or even hand luggage allowance.

Yes good idea to do that, some very interesting choices available.

I have seen the future, and it is the Sony E book. Perhaps limited titles at the moment, but the owner says it is the answer. It even works in the Halki sunshine apparently.

ah, but what about the esoteric feel of turning the pages, feeling the words, can a glorified I pod touch player match that!!

I have no idea, but it weighs next to nothing and the owner liked it; not a technophile but liked it. It also does large print. It also doesn't self destruct like a large paperback. On the minus side you can't exchange at the library! I stress I have not tried it, I am merely repeating received information.

Heat, wind, sea water, sweat & sun oil are not good for books. They are probably not good for Sony E books either!

If you think using the word 'intrepid' is dangerous, then think again.... - in it's previous incarnation this site (run by others) had me banned for saying football was for a bunch of poofta's and beer swilling tattood women singing 'ere we go, ere we go, ere we go........... Thanks for that fatcat it really made me laugh......just what I needed as the post Halki depression is setting in. ;D ;D ;D ...... only jestin'........ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
