I don't think there was any insult intended ..I certainly didn't read it that way ..infact you summed it up yourself with this line and that was the message that I think Bob and Joan were trying to get across

Hmmm! Certainly felt a bit of a nosebleed coming on after reading the reply. Checked 'intrepid' in the dictionary-'bold'. Still happy with that-not very bold at trying new places!
Ate Nasi Goreng from banana leaves in Borneo jungle 1966 and mountains of Gyros when we lived in Cyprus- neither was beneath my tastes. No disparagement re the Grill or its fare intended. Got used to our favourites I'm afraid and not tried the Grill for an evening meal yet. Personal choice I guess.
Wouldn't want to stir up this excellent website with too much defensive diatribe so will go 'read only' for a while.
Many thanks to Jude and Sth for latest info on daytrippers. I'm getting old and missed the Daytripper topic thread.

What is Nasi Goreng? I was in Sarawak in 2006 (Kuching for New Year) and I remember the fern sprouts. Also fished durian from the river and ate it. Can't see the problem with Durian, or with your posts either. Carry you on Boi, kep you a troshin'.

Wow! This is fun. I haven’t enjoyed myself so much since I chased Dissi’s and Ado in the Radfan and Dhofar. Less dangerous then with only bullets and bombs flying around. ;D With all these Teddies being thrown out of their cots is it still safe to go to Halki?

C'mon peeps we all know the written word can be misinterpreted very easily ...and hard as it is to believe I have done this myself once or twice ...so lets put the down the handbags and remind ourselves what brings us here ..so we must all agree on at least one thing

j90 & Papas - First of all, I ( Bob ) , would like to apologise to you both if I upset you with my comments. I can assure you that there was absolutely no intention to insult you. It was my misunderstanding of the word 'intrepid' which seems to have caused some discomfort to you and for that again I apologise. I have had my wrist slapped soundly by my wife Joan. To j90 please do not use this website as a "read only" site. I enjoy reading your comments and long may it continue. As you say, it is a great website and again, long may it continue because Liz and her team do a terrific job and it would be a pity if you stopped contributing. Liz - Thank you for jumping to my defence and you were quite right in thinking that I meant no insult to j90 or Papas. It was my misunderstanding of the context of the comment.

Hi j90, Like you we have never tried The Grill. Either the few tables have been occupied or we had already decided where else we were going to eat. This year I will make a point of giving it a go. The food certainly always smelled delicious as we would stroll by.

Bob, Thank you kindly for your apology which is sincerely accepted. I may have jumped the gun somewhat and in return I offer my apologies unreservedly. Roll on July 1st when Sun, Sea, Ouzo and great company will no doubt extinguish my somewhat short fuse! ;D Angelo get the 'Firewater' ready! (Souma) ;D ;D ;D That is TC don't c**k it up with their flight times. lol ;D

sth, unfortunately the Hiona era is gone. However, I will put a suggestion to the Godfather that perhaps we could continue the synchronized salute as the ‘PerlAreta’ salute. This is, of course, predicated on the resumption of the Alimnia expeditions. It has it been so long since our expertise in synchronized gamping has been called upon that the Halki pandemic of terminal lethargy is probably incurable. ;D As an aside, if any of the teddy-throwers are interested we have used the Grill on a number of occasions and found not only that the food is good but the delightful couple (should be threesome now I suppose?) are both friendly and witty. We always visit each Taverna in turn from the first night then chop-and-change as the mood takes us.

Thanks Bob-all's well! I've just been to the funeral today of an old service buddy-life's too short!! Next visit to Halki we will give the Grill a go. Alas, don't think it will be this year unless we can find a cancellation for last week in August. First year that we have not been. Traumatic!

If you think using the word 'intrepid' is dangerous, then think again.... - in it's previous incarnation this site (run by others) had me banned for saying football was for a bunch of poofta's and beer swilling tattood women singing 'ere we go, ere we go, ere we go........... ...... only jestin'........ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
