fatcat. When you were banned from “The other site” I was around at the time and for the life of me could not understand the reason. Your description of the football world was concise, completely accurate and I cannot remember you slipping in any words of more than two syllables which could cause comprehension confusion to a football supporter.

I know it is still early in the season but some of you have returned recently, it would be good to have some feedback particularly from new visitors to Halki, good or bad we would like to hear it ;D Thanks just back after 4 glorious weeks, what else can one say, glad tobe back!!!!-uh do not think so. Over the four weeks we spread ourselves round the eating houses, Kikis was great as was the steak house and the black sea martias and her sisters and the tartan table cloths, the bakery, supermarkets and Theodossia all brilliant, booked and paid deposit for next year, cannot afford the time or money to return this year, anyhow, i think we are end of may early june folks who like to be quiet but also meet up with real friendly people, hope halki never attracts the other sort!!! - off to put a sweater on!!

Roy - 4 weeks!!! I've only done one week holidays in Halki, usually fairly last minute and they've been wonderful. I usually take several books with me and only get through part of one. In four weeks I think I'd probably get through them all.

papas - Have a great time when you go next week. I know you will - Halki gets better with every visit, something I did not think possible. Don't forget to take your credit card with you - the Jewellery Shop should now be OPEN. I am sorry I missed the opening the day we left. There I go, telling "porkies" again. Please give our best wishes to all at Ftenagia and don't let Angelis supply you with too many Soumas's - 5 should be enough during lunch. Have a great time. ;D

j90 - Sorry you are not going to Halki this year. If you can get a flight to Rhodes for next Wed and taxi to the port and ferry across to Halki, then I am sure that 'papas' will give up his bed for you. We are off Island Hopping in September for 4 weeks and Leros is one of our 'must visit' islands. We were there about 6/7 years ago for a few hours on a trip from Kalymnos. One of our stops on the Island tour was the Allied Forces War Cemetery. We were there for only 30 mins which was not long enough to look at all the memorials. The cemetery was in immaculate condition - not like the ones in our area. I am a member of the Royal British Legion - not a service member, only a social member - but I walk with the Legion every Rememberance Sunday and have done for years and years representing my father who is now 93 years old and served in the Middle East during the war. He cannot get out these days due to ill health. I appreciate everything our older generation did for us but where has it got us. I will always remember the insciption on a headstone in the Far East and I quote "WHEN YOU GO HOME, TELL THEM THAT FOR YOUR TOMORROW WE GAVE OUR TODAY"

Hi Bob and Joan
We did the Kalynmos trip to Leros back in 1997 and we both found the War cemetary so moving.
It was so immaculate and I remember clearly walking up and down the rows of gravestones feeling so sad that so many young men had given their lives for us to have the freedom we have today.

How do you manage with your luggage allowance?
I used to take four or five but with books weighing so heavy I try and keep it down to three now and rely on the library for the rest.

One of the good things about Halki is that comparatively little has been written about it so I don't have to take any guidebooks. Even when I visit an island I haven't been to before I tend to photocopy the relevant pages rather than take the whole book.
