Best thread of the season, keep up the good work, a great fix for those of us still to arrive. Thursday meal report awaited ! Tea last night. Rose was a little disappointed as a large group had just ordered the last of the pig on a stick (or spit) at Valantis. We still ate there though, I had chicken on same said stick but Rose ended up having chicken souvlaki. Both very veerry nice. I ended up with chicken stuff all over my fingers, as you do Before our next visit we'll pop in early and ask the nice lady to keep something for us so we don't miss out again. Just having a last 5 mins chilling before we head off for the arduous trek to Ftenagia to continue our chilling Cheers Tom and Rose

Just how long has that car been there? No parking permit and the police station only yards away Now wait for all the ahhh's. Nic's newest arrival, hatched just this morning Oh and Carol, passed your regards on to Leli. He thanked me and smiled warmly. He also said "Yes I know", and grinned when I told him you're looking forward to being there in August Cheers Tom and Rose

I'm glad of the shade sometimes. Don't mind walking in the sun but we're not really sun worshipers that like to go all funny colours after a few days Cheers Tom and Rose

I note no form form of fowl on the menu tonight. James, unfortunately I can't guarantee that no winged animals will not be harmed in the preparation of our evening meal tonight :D Cheers Tom and Rose I remember when I used to keep poultry. I had the ancillary equipment; incubators., "electric hen", automatic drinkers, and plucking machine! The "Fluffy bunny" brigade used to come round, "Aaaaaaaaaaah have they all got names?" "Yes! Monday, Tuesday...!" The picture of the Muscovey Duckling reminded me of Christmas dinners past! This bird is quite simply The Best, and none of you will ever get the chance to eat one! Fully grown of course! They are delicious, next come Goose, Duck, Pheasant, Guinea Fowl, Chicken, and last is Turkey bootiful it aint! Mine were all free range of course. There is a sad paradox of the "Fluffy bunny" brigade that the meat in the supermarket is not seen as part of an animal. Shock horror, it is! Tom, enjoy your Chicken with a clear conscience, that is how it is. Sadly it will not be a free range one! Now I do free range Dorado & Jack. Delicious! No vegans were injured in this posting!

Happy, or should that be sad to report, that no two legged, winged, flappy bird things were maimed, or slightly frightened in the production of our evening meal at the Black Sea. I defaulted to my stifado as Rose did to her lamb chops. Both very tasty Cheers Tom and Rose

The picture of the Muscovey Duckling reminded me of Christmas dinners past! You certainly know your birds. We thought it was a goose as there were several in the enclosure nearby. By the way I did Google the name of the duck and half way down the page there was our new born, complete with blue beak. I take my hat of to you Sir Cheers Tom and Rose

I take my hat of to you Sir :) Cheers Tom and Rose Other observations on the wee ducky. He/she still has the egg tooth and most of the down is still sheathed so it looks spikey. The lump on the bill will be gone in a few hours and a fine white hair-like dust will come off to reveal ducky in all it's fluffiness. The method of "birth" is fascinating. The duckling/chick or whatever is all twisted up in the shell. The first stage is when it breaks into the air sac at the blunt end of the shell and breathes. Then it begins to suffer from CO 2 excess and goes into something like convulsions. This causes the head to jerk upwards and the egg tooth chips the shell. Then it relaxes and then jerks again. The twist of the body causes the baby to rotate so each chip is on a circle until the end falls off. The muscle contractions untwist the baby and out comes the head. They breathe easy for a bit and then push themselves out. I never tired of watching it take place.

I will repeat my earlier observation, you really do know your birds. It was only a couple of months ago that I learnt that the "flat" end is actually the top of the egg Cheers Tom and Rose

While I'm online STOP THE PRESS We may not be as well travelled as some members on here. However in our 22 years of coming to Greece we've had most of the food that's available but we've just had (said in the style of Jeremy Clarkson) the best Gyros in the world. We've had our fair share over the years but today we stopped at Valantis on our way back from Pontamos for a spot of lunch and I'm gob smacked at just how tasty this one was It will not be our last, and we're back there for some animal on a stick tonight Cheers Tom and Rose
