soupdragon - original link was on 3rd page of this thread, 4th post from top. However, for simplicity, here's a link to the 2 albums I mentioned: Halki July 13Halki July 13 - Beyond Imborio[There are 2 spellings for the town - Emborio or Imborio - I use the latter as this seems to be the more common Greek variation] There are albums covering the same general time of the year going back to 2006, including a set in 2008 covering the walk back from the monastery (at the end of the road out of town] to taverna at Pondamos. No worries JTB. Was copying and pasting links as you posted, so didn't see you were ahead of me!
Topography of the harbour area makes the effects of sun rise pretty special and worth the effort of an early rise. As indeed are the night time reflections in the water of the harbour. I've got the best results from the eastern end of the north shore where there are few, if any boats moored. Long exposures (up to 30 sec) tend to end up with slightly burred boats as they move in the ever so slight swell if you shoot from the west side (i.e. hotel side).

Some really lovely pictures there. The zoomed in shot of the just risen sun is great. I do usually get up before 7 and have seen some really good sights from our veranda. I wouldn't be able to do them justice with the camera on my phone though. I'll forward the links on to my daughter, she's recently started taking photography rather seriously. I'm sure she'll appreciate the technical quality of what you've posted as well as the stunning visuals Thanks again. Cheers Tom and Rose

Doing nothing - absolutely nothing - is an art which I perfected in Halki many years ago and bring back to gold medal standard on each and every visit. When you can combine that with listening to silence, you will truly appreciate Halki. ??

Doing nothing - absolutely nothing - is an art which I perfected in Halki many years ago and bring back to gold medal standard on each and every visit. When you can combine that with listening to silence, you will truly appreciate Halki. ???????? Now then, I know you worked on "sth towers", and the garden, to say nothing of your extensive research into the effects of salt water on mobile phones!! Regarding the Halki relaxation mode it's great for some folks, and not for others. Speaking as someone with absolutely no artistic ability whatsoever, my pictures are a poor sight compared with stevec et al. This is why I keep asking for photographers on the boat! The frequent visitor may find the relaxation extending into ennui. his is where early mornings to see the sunrise come in. Before I had Kinygos (I) (the Hardy) I used to rise early to go out with a local fisherman (now retired) as crew and frequently saw the sunrise. After removing fish from the nets, or decapitating shrimp, I then did the Greek thing and had a siesta in the heat of the day to regain my strength for the evening. Different strokes... There is something in this vicarious pleasure of reading the blog of a first timer. The nearest I came to that was when I rounded the headland in 2001on my first trip in Kinygos and saw the taverna of Ftenagia for the first time. Quite a surprise as I remembered a simple derelict barn from previous visits in the early 90's! Now there are few surprises, but there is pleasure in the familiar; both places and people. Keep up the good work Tom! Finally: I have a bit of a catastrophe with one of my video camcorders. It is a digital tape job and it does not play-back well; horizontal bars appear. This means I cannot transfer the stuff to the computer. Any ideas anyone? The stuff relates to the round the island project.
