Owing to technical difficulties, I've had to start a "part 2". Seems the original thread has developed a cold and needs some rest. Liz knows about the problem and will try to merge the two parts when she can. So, thanks in advance Liz Normal service will resume shortly, or at least as soon as I've got my first beer of the day Cheers Tom and Rose

Hmmm - love octopus. The smell of roasting octopus is amazing. This year on Halki is going to be all about fish for me. How is the water from the desalination plant? Hi Stuart Not sure if that question was intended for us as I can't read it in context. That thread seems to have stopped displaying new posts. Liz knows and will try to sort things out. Anyway, I've read on another post that it seems to be fine. We've not actually consumed any (knowingly) but we've boiled quite a bit of it in the kettle and there's no sign of a build up on the element. I'll take that as a good sign then Cheers Tom and Rose

As far as I can see, this was the post that wouldn't post..post. Nothing special to report today, just another mellow day doing nothing at all except enjoying the moment Tea was at Remezzo again. Stuffed sweet peppers and the very tasty potato gratin followed by their volcano pizza. I'm still impressed by the general high standard of the food here. Usually on holiday we find maybe two tavernas that really stand out from the rest but here they're all top notch. Must give a shout out to Valantis though, it's become our favourite and will be our choice for our last meal on Tuesday night. Can't believe our two weeks is nearly over. You loose track of time here don't you and when the realisation of departure looms it's head you always feel sad Cheers Tom and Rose

Tom and Rose, yes, it is a shame as you come to an end of a Halki holiday, but your posts have been great and buoyed up a lot of us still to go. I hope that we'll get more information flow as the season goes on and doubtless you'll be coming back. You are right about the Tavernas though, sure, you gravitate to one or more of your favourites, but the quality of food and variety is really good.
Best wishes.

Just had another excellent Gyros at Valantis. Got some chocolate cake for Rose and some Baklava for me from the café bar/cake dispensing establishment opposite the quay. Just finished it now back at our place with a nice cup of Yorkshire Cheers Tom and Rose

Just finished it now back at our place with a nice cup of Yorkshire Cheers Tom and Rose I tried to add a comment to Part 1 of your blog last night and although it seemed OK, nothing appeared and my comment disappeared into the ether. This is what I had tried to say: We love the Vilantes Grill, Elena and Vilantes are great hosts, Elena is lovely and always finds time to chat even though she is always run off her feet and Valentis is an amazing cook. We first visited in 2008, then 2010 and again last year 2013, it is very noticeable how much the Grill House has gained in popularity over the years (highly recommended by Trip Advisor - see www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g189443-Halki_Dodecanese.html) and it is now one of our favourite places to eat. We tend not to visit the same place two years running (still too much of the world I have not seen) but I made the mistake of taking our daughter last year, now I have two of them (wife and daughter) insisting we go back to Halki this year. We will be in Villa Kyriakos in September. Loving your holiday blog, really getting us in the mood for our visit in September. Tom, Sylvia and Sharon

That's one kind of hen pecked that I could put up with Rain this evening, just checked accuweather and the warmest place out of Halki, Kos, Zakynthos and back home in Wallasey is home I know you get what you get but the forecast for tomorrow is looking a bit cloudy too. It'd be nice if our last day was a sunny one so I'll say a little prayer to Apollo, Helius or even Ra if needs be Cheers Tom and Rose

A matter of information.
The lost posts are not lost, just mislaid!
To see them click on "Recent Posts" and you will see them all. This is not an explanation, it is just how it is!
Bougainvillea are not "flowers", the coloured bits are "bracts" (Coloured leaves surrounding the true flowers.) Why does it matter?
I have them in my garden plot and on my pergola. While they are undeniably beautiful, the bracts do not wilt like flowers, they fall off, turn brown, and roll around and around forming "snow drifts". They are everlasting and a total pain. I bought a garden vacuum cleaner just to pick them up and destroy them! They are the work of the devil, the nosferatu! To add insult to injury the stems are fearsomely thorny too! Which makes getting them under control a hazardous occupation. Definitely a plant best enjoyed on somebody else's property.

Greetings After a little investigation I did realise the posts were still visible to me, I mentioned the fact to Liz when I contacted her this morning. All should be well in a few days though We actually have a small drift of said bracts in the corner of our balcony, one that I have been clearing every other day. I can imagine that over the weeks they would accumulate into quite a gathering. As you say though, pretty Cheers Tom and Rose

Tonight's evening sustenance was taken at the grill house next to Dimitri's bakery. I indulged in a fine example of lamb stifado while Rose had beef kokinisto, also very fine. Two clean plates later we were given a small but welcome piece of, what can best be described as Baklava but without the nuts but with a lemon custard filling. Very tasty indeed Why is it that the later we get into our holiday, the less we want starters? It's a common theme wherever we go, there's never anything wrong with them but we simply stop having so many...... Answers on a postcard if you will Cheers Tom and Rose
