Trawling t'web, I came across this site www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=87676and these are some comments from people from 2005
Spend a week in Halki winding down and then a week visiting your favourite spots on Rhodes.
Halki is a beautiful, friendly island but very small and extremely quiet in comparison to Rhodes. Though there is good standard accommodation available it is mostly in small studios and pensions, when i visited there was no pool type complexes (such as those in Pefkos or above Lindos). Did you visit Symi during your holiday in Pefkos? If so think Symi without the hordes of daytrippers.
Personally i think Halki for two weeks is ok for the 'waiting for god' or 'grecophile' crowd but could be a little boring.

Yes I have been to Symi. We went for the day from Rhodes town which we enjoyed very much but as you say, not suitable for a two week holiday.
Looks likely we'll go for the twin centre holiday Ouzo Post subject: Posted: Tue Feb 15, 2005 10:15 pm Member

It is totally dominated by a couple of british package companies which does give it a rather odd atmosphere. Thus in a way not entirely different to Lindos but very much quieter.
There is very little in Chalki to see as such, it does have one decent beach and a good selection of restaurants for it's size, sort of a mini Symi. There are great views from an old castle behind the ruined Hora a mile or so up from the port.
Definately go for the two centre. (tip take the ferry to Kassos rather than Chalki).

Just shows you how some people can sooooooooooo wrong

Yes I agree, it is not for everyone but if you want peace and quiet and a complete chill out holiday it is the place, Symi used to be somewhere I quite fancied but I know it would be too busy for us, we have found our little bit of heaven and we know nowhere else will come close to it. People definitely think we are odd going back to the same place every year but why not, it has everthing we need, and can I just mention we will be there this time next week ;D ;D

Spot on Daisy, we always extol the virtues of Halki to our friends, then add, "But it wouldn't suit you!". How selfish is that, but just can't help it. ;D

We too always do the "wouldn't suit you" act to our friends. Unfortunately two friends of ours have booked Halki despite our best advice and are going on Sept 10th! ;D
We are going on Oct 1st for two weeks. ;D ;D

I know we're all different. One of my friends is a definite 'pool' person. But for me there's nothing like swimming in the sea. So much more interesting and so much easier to stay afloat!
