................. pending confirmation //throws a fish//........ We mourn the passing of the Potato au gratin, we had some tonight for dinner and our thoughts turned to Halki and the many times we have enjoyed that particular dish (as well as all the others).

Fatcat, to stop my wife crying about the closure of the Black Sea can you share a decent recipe for the potatoes au gratin dish before I am knee deep in salty water?

Hello Bill, welcome to the madhouse that is Halki Visiting
Potatoes cut small, parboiled. Lightly cooked bacon Mix with chopped onion & grated cheese (& garlic if you like). Cook 'till done.
That's how I'd do it. Am I right?

made something similar but you do need to finish it off in the oven to make the cheese melt and to finish off the spuds ;D

So I assume I got it right?
It is really a variation on the theme of Jacket Spud with bacon cheese & onion filling.
Obviously a healthy, low cholesterol, slimming meal!
I suspect "The Black Sea" finished it in the microwave judging by the heat on arrival; lipids attract the rays!
Use of the microwave is not a criticism by the way, It's a very useful tool.
Sunfun: this is NOT the meal to look forward to, no matter how yummy it is! Feel those arteries clogging up!
Try a grilled Gilt Head bream with salad, also very yummy!

Errata
Gilthead; one word, not two!
You can get them in the supermarkets "Farmed in Greece"
Probably just called Sea Bream.
This was also a standard at The Black Sea.
