Alas, only one! I met someone on holiday there who lived 5 miles from me at home (it didn't last!) My company had promised to hold my job open for a year, and the people I had rented my house to were ready to move on! I went back at every opportunity, 2 or 3 times a year, until I suddenly found myself with twins, two live-in teenagers, and the pitter patter of another set of tiny feet the next year! To say I had my wings well and truly clipped would be an understatement!! ;D ;D

???Shame really 4 months is not very long to get to know the Island and people, most of the reps seemed to have work for a long time on Halki i.e . Jane for Dg and Bob for Laskarina

I was there from end of March until early November that time, the friends I made continued to be friends on the 12 to 15 visits I made in subsequent years

Steven, Jane married a Greek and has subsequently lived on the island and Bob also has a property there, Kathy was a rep and her story is different as she has raised a family and is now about to return after a gap of many years. It really doesnt matter how long she worked there, most of us only visit for two weeks a year but feel we have made good friends, the difference is that there has been a long gap between Kathys last visit and this one and it will obviously be very special to her and her family, I only wish I could be there to witness her return.

Thanks Carol, I couldn't have put it better myself. Those with a natural warmth of spirit and empathy understand why it is still special to me, as it is for so many of us here. On a different note, was Jane ever based in Rhodes, many years ago?

There were quite a lot of day trippers when I was there (1-8 July) but they didn't seem to come to Ftenagia, the day that was particularly busy was the Sunday with a lot of Greek families there. I think the day trippers must have gone to Pondamos. You could see the ferry arriving and it always looked very busy.
I am used to going in May and October though when it is very quiet, this year I was the only one on the beach the first 2 days in May!
I think when you go in August Kathy it will be busier but you will still love the place. Like everyone else I would love to be on the same boat as you to see your reaction. I always stand at the front of the boat all the way just watching Halki get closer and watching for dolphins.

Hi Cathy, I'm not going to mind it being busier, the people I knew best are still there, apart from a couple of sad exceptions. It will still be beautiful, and that moment the island first comes into view has always been the best thing I've ever seen. Even when I just picture it in my mind, the magic is still there. As for standing on deck waiting for that first glimpse, as we all do it, its a wonder we haven't had a few capsizes! I will probably be pretty misty eyed - or sick with excitement, not sure which! I will probably have a couple of ouzo's at K.S.(just to settle my nerves of course!)

A couple of bottles of Retsina do the trick for me and boy do they taste great after a year away, I still shed a tear though when Halki comes into view, mind you that is nothing to what I do when I leave as some of you have witnessed

Hi andrew I,m a bit like you persuaded by children to go one more time, we will probably use ftengia more than Pondemos , so hopefully it will not be too busy, but I don't want to go to Halki if it is swarming with day trippers or even if the island is jam packed. Also agree paying for 4 sun beds each day does add up. On another note does the hotel bring open make much difference to how busy restaurants are each day? Rollo. see you all on the 29th july.

Carol, you said about the taste of Retsina being wonderful after a year away, I feel the same about a lovely glass of ouzo, fresh orange and ice, once I'm back in Greece. Why is it then that if you take some home, or buy it at the supermarkets here, it's never the same! Must be the magic of Greece !!! ;D ;D Oh, I can't wait! ;D ;D
