Hello again
I just spotted on a recent Tripadvisor review that somebody went on a day trip to Tilos from Halki via a catamaran.
Does anyone have any further info regarding this (ie. cost, timings, availability)?
Thanks

Hi Mark, the catamaran goes to Tilos on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the journey is about 45 minutes and it leaves Halki at approximately 10am and leaves Tilos about 15.45pm I think the fare is 18 Euros return, you will need to buy a ticket before you board from Zifos travel which is in the middle of the harbour to the left of the bakery. Tilos is quite different to Halki but the harbour area is flat with many tavernas just behind the pebble beach and there is also an old village up in the hills but you would need to use the bus or a taxi to get there, worth a visit in my opinion, hope that helps.

No taxi now on Tilos. We were there in May and the flowers were stunning when you ventured away from the coast . The island bus, about which there is an excellent film on YouTube which is up for an award soon, will take you up to Megalo Chorio and beyond to the other side of the island. A trip not to be missed and as Carol says "very different from Halki". Not everyone's cup of tea but Tilos is such a lovely little island. Have a look at Octopus in My Ouzo for a taster. Bus timetable online too.

Thanks Curiouser, we did get the bus up to Megali chorio the first time we went and had a lovely lunch in a taverna looking down the valley, it was very pretty up there, loved all the blue and white houses and the beautiful church and the ride down showed us some stunning beaches. Last year we just stayed on the front and chilled out on a sunbed before having a wonderful lunch in a beachside taverna, we liked it so much that we have booked a week there next year before we cross to Halki

Glad to hear you've been charmed by Tilos Carol. We were put off by someone who visited many years ago and wasn't impressed. Just shows you need to go yourself to find out. Tilos has such hidden charms and like Halki has many returning visitors who know the island so well. The evenings are lovely there and the islanders are so friendly. Maybe we'll bump into you as we have just booked for Halki in September 2015. It's such a difficult choice but we're fortunate that a short visit is possible on the Dodek. We also loved Nissyros and especially the volcanoe. Inland there is just so much to see and the geology is amazing. I'd recommend a visit to the main volcano early in the morning before the coach tours arrive as it is magical. I will never forget walking in the caldera and listening to it bubbling away. There are some stunning walks and Mandraki has a very special atmosphere. Luckily it's fairly easy to travel between the islands although I do agree that Halki is special.

Nissyros is on my list of islands to visit, I saw some photos a while ago and it looks beautiful, we may do a quick trip when we are in Tilos if we can drag ourselves away, we are really looking forward to staying in Tilos next year. We will be in Halki in 2015 from 27/8 until 9/9 if you are there then we must get together and compare notes !!

Carol - I think your memory for the Dodec return to Tilos is a bit out of date. We were talking to a couple in Christina A over an early evening G&T back in 2nd week of July after they'd done the trip and they said it was 26 euros return (each). Still v good value

I am quoting the price they are advertising Steve, on 26/7 summer offers Halki to Tilos 18 Euros and Halki to Nissyros 24 euros, now it does say same day return, I understood that to mean a return ticket but it may not mean that at all, tickets have to be booked one day in advance. Just had another look and it is saying 26 Euros return, website is www.12ne.gr

In fact I think we'll be overnighting on Rhodes on the 9th so looks unlikely. I'll look forward to reading your reports on here.

Ah - so standard fare is 26 euros return but Dodec run promo offers from time to time, so currently 18 euros while deal lasts. Maybe they'll run something as generous when we're back next year.
