Thanks Carol. P.S. Will my wife be allowed to bring her broom on the Fedon. Just asking lol. Ryanair might not be happy -might see it as competition.

No problem with the Fedon, they let me bring mine every year , not sure about Ryanair, they will certainly charge you for taking it with you !!

Some abstract thoughts:
1) A wise man learns from his mistakes. A foolish man makes no mistakes. 2) The less time you run a business the less your expenses. 3) If you shorten the window of opportunity to earn money from your business you can recoup this by reducing the amount you pay your staff, or indeed not paying your staff. 4) In addition you can charge more than a previously agreed price; especially if the people you are charging are “rich”. 5) If a third party recommends that your potential customer finds a better run business, you do not raise your game, you criticise, and possibly victimise, those who “steal” your potential customers. Why? Because you have made no mistakes! 6) Truth and reality sometimes create problems for others.
My thoughts have no relevance to this thread of course.

Use whatever means you can to get to Haki, including broomsticks, although I'm not sure of the baggage allowance ! Just to reiterate my own take on the advice of others, 'Plan B'. Fingers crossed for an enjoyable time.

Suspect the problems are essentially short season (May to mid October) and only 14 rooms. It has to be staffed from scratch each year which will be a problem so far as recruiting management and key skilled personnel (like a chef) as any with a proven track record will be already employed elsewhere. Occupancy rates are going to be very volatile - not enough rooms to attract any big holiday operators, so very reliant on internet sales. So as a business, it is not built on very solid foundations.
We booked a group in for a meal last year and asked for the roof terrace. Clearly not something they'd anticipated as the lighting provided was very Heath Robinson and barely adequate. Food was great and the evening went well. If the team coming in this year have last year's team's play book, then they will better geared up to do more of these. The view over the harbour is fantastic and if eating up there isn't deemed practical, then as a place for a pre or post dinner drink, got to be a winner.

Got to work this morning and was going to try one last time to contact the people who I had been speaking to . Before I had chance the man who had phoned me a few weeks ago rang my phone and I had a chat with me . He told me that the hotel is open now and that guests are currently there , he said that he would send me a email regarding my reservation (still waiting), and that everything was fine with the hotel. I don't know if there are people already staying at the hotel? I told him that I was concerned as the telephone number on the website is dead , and he said the number from which he just called was the new number? After I spoke to him I thought it was a little strange that I should receive a call after posting on this forum , and was someone actually viewing the posts on here , put two and two together and called me? Is there anyone currently on Halki who can confirm (or not) the things he said about guests being there etc.

Certainly people in Halki do look at this board so it is quite possible that he saw it, I will make a couple of enquiries and get back to you

Like all the businesses on Halki then re the season .. but they seem to manage.. and they had an excellent chef a couple of years ago ... and for whatever reasons he's no longer there .. Not too many years ago that Hotel was always busy .. conferences .. business meetings etc I'd say most of Halki's accommodation sales are internet based now, with fewer and fewer tour operators going to the Island .. but even the people with one property manage to answer e-mails in a timely fashion .. don't get me wrong .. I'd love to see the place succeed, like I said it's a fabulous place with a terrific setting ... just needs something or someone to get a handle on it

Thank you Carol, looks like plan B . Kinygos knows the score lol While you may discern meaning in my gnomic utterances ("pas devant les enfants"), bennielechat proves that a picture is (or some pictures are) worth a thousand words!
