Great pictures Graeme, as usual far better than mine! Some points/questions. 1) In my posting I said BBQ, but now I think you are right, it was a picnic. Was it ever a BBQ? I think not in retrospect. 2) In my picture (1992) the ferry was the old Halki. I think in 1993, or perhaps 1994 the Nikos Express ran alongside the old Halki. When did the new Halki arrive?
3) I like the "lobsters" on the Kyristanis tender! Silly people.
... and finally... 4) Graeme, how come you can go on the Kyristanis/Passiakos Cruises but not on Kinygos II? I came over from Kamiros Skala on it once and cannot say I liked the trip at all. We need a good photographer on K2 you know!

Simon, it was a barbeque in 2008 when we went on the Kyristanis but I would say it was a picnic in the good old days of Direct Greece when we went with Jane and Sheila, there was an occasion when we went incognito with Bob and Laskarina, those photos are probably in the loft somewhere to be discovered at a later date !!

Such great memories, we used to look forward to those trips every year, the swimming and snorkelling at Alimnia was amazing and Kiki still talks about that trip with us and the Retsina in the sea

Kiki was still talking about that day when we saw her last year, we used to have a great time there, such a shame it all stopped

Wonderful photos....We went on the Laskarina Picnic to Alimnia with Bob and Lynn in 2004 and loved it. I especially enjoyed the swim from and to the boat.

Great photos Graeme and lovely memories. We have only been once on what was probably the last of the bbq trips.

They were brilliant trips Gilly, we really miss them. Are you "fishing" for a private trip and picnic?
...and will Graeme come if we do?

He says yes so long as it is calm, looks like we might get him on K2 this year, he was only saying yesterday he needs to take some photos of the harbour from the sea.

"and can I come too please?" OK guys before we all get too excited... There are a number of possibilities here, and possible problems... I take a few chums fishing. The locals don't do that. I am doing it for free. I give fish to the tavernas. We drink at bar afterwards. Everyone wins. If someone is doing trips to Alimnia and I do it I could make trouble for myself. This is probably not an issue for a one off trip. Each year I make one or two trips with Lord Lucan as a three boat convoy to Alimnia. Nobody worries about that (as far as I know). A certain local organised trips to Alimnia with food for his day trippers and it had to stop. I don't know why. I am limited as to numbers on K2. It has a semi planning hull. Load it up and it doesn't plane. What does that mean? On the plane; around 20 knots Not on the plane; around 10 knots, or 15 with people on the bow seats. Or to put it another way; half the speed irrespective of forcing the engine, and increased fuel consumption. We go fishing at 6-8 knots so no problem . If you "just want to get there" it's a problem.
In any case no more than 5, unless it's an emergency. I have no idea when the Noble Lord will be over next year, and I would not commit him to an Alimnia picnic. So it would just be me, at least one crew, and three guests for K2. If another boat is available that would open up more possibilities.
Another possibility is to finish the fishing trip at Alimnia which is the sort of thing I was thinking of. We need to have a think about this, but it should be possible one way or another. Weather permitting, as always.

Carol, I assume you are talking the "New Kyristanis" as in sleek motor launch type thing? The old Kyristanis was used in the early Laskarina days. Vicki and I used to peel dozens of hard boiled eggs on the way over!! She was used by Ilias and his brothers on the KS ferry route after their old fishing ferry and before but also in tandem with the original Halki. She would have rolled on wet grass. Following a side swipe by a large ferry, she subsequently went to the bottom of the harbour some years ago. . It was always a picnic as opposed to BBQ.
