We went with Olympic for our first visit to Halki a few years ago. On the return trip, they dropped us at a hotel (Kassandra) for a few hours. We are going with them again in June, so will look forward to a few hours waiting around the hotel rather than the airport. Is the hotel near any interesting places?

In a word NO however, if you walk up the lane away from the main road you will after aprox 5mins arrive at the coast, where there are a few friendly taverners. Depending on how long you have to wait for your transfer to the airport it may be worth your while booking a room and using the hotel pool.

Ah, a fan! Thanks for the tip, a walk to the beach might do for an hour or so.

We were left at the kassandra from 10 am till 1 am next morning when we went to halki last year. It was noisey and lots of screaming kids in the pool. We left the cases and turned right up the main road. When we got to the cross roads go left and cross over the road. Get on the bus and €2 each a short trip to Rhodes town. The bus stops near a market. We had a beer. Well it was rude not to. We then walked to the old town and had a lovely afternoon and a meal. We picked up a business card from the Kassandra and showed it to a taxi driver just out side the old town. He took us back for €12 ( there were four of us). We had a shower in the basement of the hotel. Not very pleasant in the showers. That were hot but they were dirty and my other half a a man peeping through the window! I made sure the ladies window was shut and stayed with my teenage daughters. The reception staff at the hotel were rude and unhelpful. We are going to halki again in a couple of days and are prepared for the "kassandra" experience. We are looking forward to a few hours in Rhodes town. Hopefully no pervs in the shower this time.

After reading your Iron request I thought that you were a first timer to Halki, obviously not if you have experienced the Kassandra, when I had my flight changed for a early in the morning leaving Rhodes last year - I booked a room at the Kassandra which enabled privacy in the shower

What a pity Olympic has to be cheap and nasty when allocating hotels or facilities in transit. I am now going to pay about 100 euros on top of my holiday price to get a decent hotel, early transfer to Halki etc. I would happily pay Olympic 100 euros more on their holiday price to be treated as a human being!!!! When i am in Halki i am hoping to meet as many regulars to Halki as i can so i can get info on not travelling with Olympic again. Doing my own research Olympic were the only company to come up with Halki and they only had one apartment left in Kiki so i grabbed it quickly. There must be other ways to holiday in Halki without going through Olympic. All info gratefully recieved!!

I am sure you have accumulated some additional info, however, if you are looking for a package I understand Cosmos are 'going' to Halki.

Ruffers, jamesthebutler, daisy, carol - you have all been great. I feel i will arrive in Halki armed ready to go for it. Faff time on a holdiay/newjob/mvoing home can take 15% plus of time while literally 'faffing' about. I like to get ahead of the faff bit and know where i am going, what to see and what to do. You have all been great. Cheers

From having done a Goggle Earth - your right. sort of been round the island and back again. However still have run off a copy of jtb's post on update so we can swing in past the baker and get bread, buy some local honey and get essential milk and water and wallah - rather than scout - job done. Heat this end still sustaining - fantastic aclimatisation for September. Even better going to dry heat instead of the high humidity here. ONLY 35 DAYS TO GO - YEEHA
