Dear all,
my family and I will arrive in Rhodes airport the 24th of july at 9 p.m. The earlier connection to Halki is the caicco from kamiroscala at 2.30 p.m? Or are there other solutions earlier in the morning? I apologize if someone has already answered this question: I couldn't find anything. I remember that we bought the ticket on the place, is it already like this? Or is it better to book it before? Thanks in advance
Chiara

Hi, hopefully someone will be able to help with this but you may be able to catch the day trippers boat from Kamiros Scala on the Wednesday morning, it usually leaves about 11am or it did last year, otherwise the big ferry from Rhodes town or the catamaran may be possible.

Let us examine this mathematically. 1) you are unlikely to arrive early so let us say 09:15. 2) Let us assume you have hold luggage. Diagoras luggage handlers. Allow another hour. You could get lucky; pigs might fly! Now it is 10:15. 3) Having got the luggage you now need a taxi. You go to the taxi rank and say "Kamiros Skala". They all look the other way. Say another 15 minutes. Now it is 10:30. 4) You are in your taxi and the driver thinks he is in the Monte Carlo. Another half hour, say threequarters. 11:15. 5) Now you are at Kamiros Skala. It is most unlikely that there will be anything before 14:30, but after that taxi ride, and the shock of the cost of it, you will need a drink. Chill out and relax!

Unless I have this totally confused 24th July is a Tuesday. The day trips will leave at 09:00... I think. There is now a third ferry, and there is the water taxi. There are timetables with a considerable degree of uncertainty. I reprint here the way to calculate the local ferry times! The subject of the uncertainty of Greek ferries is a frequent subject for discussion on this board. I thought I could simplify the situation. Our guide is Schrödinger who knew all about uncertainty. Like his famous cat the Greek ferry exists in a superposition of states so the ferry is both going, and not going, and remains so until an observer collapses the wavefunction and the ferry is either going, or not going. So we begin with Schrödinger’s Equation. with has solutions of the form Which is, I think, fairly self-explanatory, but for those not mathematically inclined the wavefunction can be collapsed by contacting an observer at the departure point of the ferry. You then ask, “Is the ferry leaving at … ?” The reply may resolve the situation, or not, if they just give the answer that they think you want to hear! I hope that is the final answer to this problem!

"I think you need a beer or three !!!"
I blame my lapse on the ones I had last night bidding farewell to my First Officer in the town.
"You need a vacation me old spark"
Better than that, I am going back to the UK to have a fight with a kitchen fitter!

Dear all,
I am really sorry if I hadn't been explained clearly enough my request! We will arrive the 24th in the evening, 21, we will pass the night in Rhodes and we will look for ferry or caicco to Halki the 25th of july in the morning. I know the caicco from Kamiro Scala is leaving at 14.30, we would like to leave earlier. I checked the ferry time table and there is no ferry on the 25th. I would like to know if there is any other solution before the 14.30 caicco from kamiro scala. Anyway, I appreaciate Schroedinger equ.'s digression, I am a mathematician!
Thanks to all of you Chiara

Ghilardic, the short answer to your question, and the reason why nobody has given you a really clear answer, is that nobody knows for sure exactly what the ferry times will be on 25th July. On Wednesdays, the normal 1430 ferry departure from Kamira Scala does not happen (or at least, has not happened in the past), because Wednesday is the day when a lot of flights come from the UK and the ferries usually wait for passengers on those flights, so the ferries depart later, about 1630 or 1730. But one of the ferries may run a day trip, so it will come from Halki in the early morning and then go back to Halki at about 10.00, then return to KS at about 1700. So.....if you get to KS by about 0930 it's possible you will be able to get a ferry to Halki, and in July there should be a good chance of this; but if there is no day trip running you may have to wait until late afternoon. Perhaps you could try to arrange to telephone (from Rhodes on Wednesday morning) either the port police or the operator of the property on Halki you have booked to stay in, to find out if there is a day trip operating on that day. Alternatively, you may choose either to spend some time in Rhodes town, or to go to KS early in the hope that you will find a morning ferry, with the risk that you will have to spend much of the day at KS. This information is based on what happened last year. If things are much different this year (now there is a new ferry) someone who has been recently may be able to correct me. I haven't recently checked the car ferry or hydrofoil times from Rhodes town but I don't think there's a service to Halki on Wednesday mornings. I hope this helps.

Further note: I've now re-checked, and confirm there is no scheduled Wednesday ferry from Rhodes town to Halki. If you look at ferry timetables on the website www.gtp.gr you will see that there is no scheduled 1430 service from Kamira Skala to Halki (you have to input using the spelling "Chalki") on Wednesdays. This is because the Wednesday services between Halki and KS are not "official government-subsidised" services, they are "local" services, that's partly why the times can be uncertain.

Hi Ghilardic, you did make yourself perfectly clear ;D The reason I mentioned the day trippers boat is that for the past few years as we have been trying to disembark the day trippers have been trying to board !!! Last year we waved our friends goodbye and the ferry returned a couple of hours later with Liz and husband ;D someone returning soon will let you know if the same is happening this year I am sure. Unfortunately ferry times seem to alter every year but hopefully you will get across on the Wednesday morning Does anyone have any information about the new ferry, is it in service yet and if so is there a timetable ?
