Isn't it about time the villa owners and holiday companies (Nissia !) started publishing their prices for villas over the season. In this way prospective tourists can make a choice without feeling they are being taken advantage of. A sensitive topic I'm sure but one which needs airing in a sensible way. Views?

I agree with you Nemo ..its something which has been discussed on a few forums .....most of the independant villas do advertise their rates on their website, Nissia for some reason do not ....Its a pain in the a*se if you've got your finger on the buy button for a flight but have no idea of availability or price for accommodation .

I agree totally especially re Nissia no idea why the prices are not on their web site ...and the answer is, I suspect, MONOPOLY (not the Parker Brothers version!)
...leading to "If you have to ask the price..." I have to confess that I am a long way out of the loop on this subject, and was astonished when I read the first entry, and the premise of the thread.

I'm beginning to find that there is room for negotiation or bartering - possibly not with Nissia (dunno).

I see the Nissia-bashing has started early this year, should lead to an interesting season. [.Its a pain in the a*se if you've got your finger on the buy button for a flight but have no idea of availability or price for accommodation . ] Though why would anyone (including the Scary One), book a flight without guaranteed accommodation is beyond me. Still with Nissia's priority client booking system I do just book the flight secure in the knowledge that there is accommodation ready.

Not sure what you mean there Enforcer ? .. You have your booking secured as you say , so you just book your flight accordingly but for those of us whose holiday dates aren't set in stone then it is a bit of a juggle sometimes to get a flight and accommodation to tie in at the same time , I personally would book flights first .. There's always somewhere to stay ( bar 28,29 August ) but if you have your eye on a particular place then an idea of price would be helpfull IMHO I don't think there's 'Nissia bashing' 'as you put it I think you'll find if you look through the forum most of the tour operators and some of the independents have been discussed in the past and hopefully will continue to be in the future .. That was the whole point of this forum .. Free( ish ) speech and opinions good or bad and to pass on as much information as possible .

This is a local forum for local people.

Sorry I don't think its" Nissia bashing" either and yes their guarenteed booking must be an added bonus for regulars something carried over from the days of Laskarina
I just find it off putting that I can't check prices and availability on their website which is something all the big tour operators offer along with many of the independants too
As for the booking of flights must admit to doing that as soon as the EJ flights are available to get cheapest prices ;D although usually have accomadation sorted as well

It's not only Nissia. To be fair to them they offer excellent accom it great locations and it's the choice of many "old Halki hands" who are happy with the arrangement and it is a half way house between full package hols and independent travelling. Seems to be a Greek thing not to reveal prices? But Look at Villa Dolphins- Halki. They give all prices on their website.

Just a thought. Could it be that the complexity of keeping the website up to date precludes it from being a DIY job and the cost of paying an IT expert is considered an unnecssary expense? Putting prices and availabilty on the website would mean at least daily updating.
boreas has a valid point that most clients are returnees that book a year in advance knowing the prices.
The lack of information is unsatisfactory, but need not imply sharp practise, which is perhaps the inference which started the controversy.

We know where we are going, and we like where we are going. When we leave, we know we'll be back in our favourite villa on our favourite island at our chosen time of the season and we know how much it will cost before we leave....The choice is ours...enough said!!!

We booked in June and paid the deposit, but didn't find out the final cost of the accommodation until October/November

I don't think it's too much to ask to have a 'from £££' on any website ..gives newcomers an idea whilst browsing. At the end of the day it's up to them how they run their business .. Doesn't mean we all have to agree with them tho'

Simon, I agree that updating availability would be a pain, and a daily exercise. But what's to stop any holiday company/property owner from showing low, mid and high season prices? Then, once you've pinpointed a property you can check on availability by email/phone.
Personally I want to know if a property is in my price bracket before I start getting excited and making enquiries.
We also book flights well in advance. As we go early and late season we can always find somewhere to stay. We are very limited on flights if we want to travel from our chosen provincial airport on a morning flight.
