Last year there were loads of books, no point in buying lots to take with you unless you want to read something specific ;D

Hi, I have been studying your message boards for months now and have finally booked our 2011 holiday to Halki in August. I am now feeling a little daunted and am maybe wondering if Halki may be a little too laid back (if there is such a thing). I am now counting down the days. I am sure I will be asking for loads of advice and tips but for now just wanted to say hello, Kalamira!!!!

Hi Catmanblue , welcome .. I'm hoping you mean 2012 Halki is laid back but not the Isle of the dead .. Depends what you want , if you want peacefully sunny days and long lunches and lovely evenings then that's what you'll get , there are bars that stay open late if you want to , to be honest I think it's what you make it . I'm an early bird to bed but our son enlightened us to a whole side of Halki we never knew ! Beach parties , yahgts ( can never spell ) There are no water sports etc so in that respect it's quiet but the evenings are lovely but if you want nightclubs etc then maybe you have looked at the wrong place :/ Ask away as much as you like , hopefully we can put your mind at rest x

"yahgts"? Yachts? Yoghourts? Something else? What on earth are you on about?
Hi and welcome Catmanblue and Gracie!
For August visitors; it's usually HOT! Hiking over the mountains is probably not a good idea. Getting out on the sea probably is! My boat will almost certainly be in, but the fish won't have turned up either at all, or in any numbers. I tend to go with chums, in other boats to Alimnia etc. for swimming and picnic. Moving on the water keeps me cool; none cooler than me! "Passiakos" and the "Water Taxi" do trips, if sufficient numbers make it economical. There are a couple of Orthodox festivals in August, Panagia 14-15, and another 27-28 (I think). Much music and dancing on the harbour front late into the night/early morning. I find Greek music like Irish folk music and Bluegrass; a little goes a long way! Others love it. Either way; not at all laid back!
