Hear, hear! Could probably manage without the swimming pool!!! Now there's a thing! I looked at properties in Kriti. and I stipulated "NO SWIMMING POOL". As it turned out I saw sense and bought on Rodos. Why on earth would anyone want a swimming pool in Greece? The sheer expense of the thing, which in any case would be little more than a paddling pool, or plunge pool is beyond comprehension! Possible reasons. 1) don't like salt water(?) 2) don't like waves! 3) fear of fish. The Telegraph uncovered this complaint "No-one told us there would be fish in the sea. The children were startled." I well remember swimming at Ftenagia before it was there. (There was just a ruined barn.) Swimming pool my a....! However, there has been a possible problem in the Emborio bay/harbour due to the s*w**e system. Don't know if it's been resolved. It involved microscopic rather than macroscopic contamination, and may be more theoretical than practical, as I understand it. Frau Chalkibert is avoiding it. Ftenagia, Pondamus, & Kania are OK in any case.

On the plus side the restaurants will be serving up really FAT Grey Mullet this year!
Yummy!
Would that be a case of getting your own back?

All that banter certainly made me smile when the rain was p***ing down on my washing. We have only three weeks to go before our next visit so whats this about new sewerage system. We always wondered where it all went.

To be serious, Frau Chalkibert told me that there had been an announcement that, once again, the pumping system beneath the area in front of "Maria's" had suffered with ingress of salt water. There was no money to fix it and there was a risk of bacterial contamination in the harbour area. That said, it is possible that some of the yachts on the pontoon may pump out into the sea. I did state elsewhere that, theoretically there was a prohibition on swimming in the harbour area in any case. This makes sense, but not to those who rent seaside properties, who feel that the sea is theirs. Remember "Vitsenzos Kornaros'" close encounter with "Christina". I would not have liked to be swimming in that area on that occasion!
I swim round my boat to inspect my bottom, sometimes to scrub it, so I too am probably being foolish. Mixing swimmers and boats is always problematical. Water pollution just adds another dimension to the problem. This is confounded by the lack of currents and tides to disperse the pollution.
Pondamus, & Kania. should be OK. The pontoon at Ftenagia is for mooring boats, not really for sunbathing & diving, otherwise Ftenagia is also OK.
I think that, as with most things in Greece, do it at your own risk and don't imagine that you can sue anybody if you get the collywobbles afterwards, or get hit by a boat. This is not the UK where a burglar can sue you for injury incurred when breaking into your house!
