Hello folks. OK so I am excited now Two weeks on Monday we fly to Rhodes then on the Wednesday to Halki for the first time since 2004! There may have been a few changes.. ..What took us so long! Since we'll be on Rhodes already, we'll probably cough up for one of the ridiculously priced taxis (from Ialyssos) - hanging about all day with luggage trying to get the bus for the late pm ferry is currently not my favourite plan... Sooo if we got a taxi at 9ish in the morning to KS , would we be likely to get a ferry over in the morning? 10.30ish? Anyone know if this makes sense? tanks

Hi Fiona we have a similar plan to you in September - I think you can get on the ferry at about 10.ish ( not sure of the exact time ) that takes over the day trippers

Fiona, the thing about day trips is that the ferry operators only operate day trips if there are enough bookings and sometimes this is not known until fairly late the day before. On Wednesdays the normal past pattern has been that the two ferries from KS wait until about 5pm and around 5.30-6pm to take passengers from the Wednesday charter flights. Last year one of the ferries often made a "double-trip" ie from Halki to KS at about 8.30, then back with day-trippers, then back again from Halki at about 4.30-5pm to KS - but this double-trip depends on demand. If intending to get across on a Wednesday, I suggest you need to have a Plan B which would involve not getting a ferry until about 4.30-5pm from KS. (On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays there should be a ferry from KS at 2.30pm.)
It might be worth considering the catamaran from Rhodes town - check operating days and times with Greek Travel Pages and re-check locally in Rhodes!
I'm currently trying to work out arrangements for late Sept - Liz, what date are you planning to travel? I think that this year, by late September it may be risky to rely on day trip crossings being operated.

Beginning of Sept for us Muriman, but we transfer from Rhodes on a Wednesday so are hoping to get a early crossing rather than hanging about all day . We have a car to return to the airport but as far as I can see the catamaran doesn't go on Wednesday But I'll be well cheesed off it we end up waiting at KS till 5.30

So will we because we will be waiting for you Last year as we got off the ferry at KS the daytrippers were waiting to get on so if it is the same this year you should be arriving about midday ;D

Thanks Folks, I think plan B would just be to find a place to sit and nibble and drink in KS all day if there isn't a ferry. It's many moons since we've been there, but the ferry always seemed to come back on the Wednesday morning... we'll proabably risk it...though I suppose we could stay at the hotel longer.... Not decisive am I! I did look for a catamaran but didn't think there was one (and back in the Laskarina days, they often had one and it often didn't come...too windy!)

7 sleep to Rhodes, 9 sleeps to Halki!
