Just read that XL has gone bust, there will be major disruption with peoples holidays and guess who had already booked their flights for next year with them

Yes Carol, we were thinking about them for next year. Might just stick with TC/DG the way things are going.
PS Hope you had a good holiday. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Yes heard this and thought 'Blimey, how many Halki types affected?'. We flew with them a few years ago - but no more. Rod

Ditto rodandjackie, This will cause a lot of heartache and anxiety for a lot of innocent holiday makers, and it may not be the last. Hopefully TC will stay afloat. Perhaps they are not so bad after all. Anne & Peter.

Carol, we have also booked our flights to Kalamata with them. Not quite sure what we do now as I suppose there is still a chance someone might step in and take them over. Will give it a couple of days and ring them to check the position.

Do Olympic still use them for Halki for the Glasgow flights? They did for Symi when I went in May

Hi Di, we have already received an email from Travel Republic who we had booked our XL flight with next year asking us to download a claim form and telling us to rebook another flight, so it does not sound hopeful that they will be bought out. The only problem now is that flights at the time we need them are very limited and very expensive, will go with it next year but may have to review it after that.

Also had flights booked with XL for next year and after a bit of umming and arrghing have re booked with TC yes I know I said I would never go with them again after the c**k up in May but must say they had got much better by the time we went 2 weeks ago despite the 4 hour delay coming home. The news is so full of doom and gloom about other travell operators being in trouble I do not feel that confident about going independantly now and having checked out flights only with other airlines TC come out considerably cheaper for the whole package.

I didn't realise until reading in the paper this morning that if you book flights only you are not covered by ATOL and if you get stranded would have to pay for your flights home and then try and reclaim the money

Just been looking at flights for next year from Birmingham, it appears the only choice is Thomsonfly which works out £200 more than the corresponding XL flight, but for us having to have 2 nights in a hotel in Gatwick it may just about break even with this year. May hang on a bit and see if anyone takes the XL slots.

We booked replacement flights last night with TC (checked they are atol covered!!) and they worked out overall £58 more so not too bad. I'm still a bit confused over getting my money back as the XL website says if you booked direct with xl.com you're not covered by atol. We booked through xl.com, but the web page confirmation (as opposed to the email confirmation) says that our contract is with Freedom Flights (which is atol covered) I paid by visa anyway, so I think I can get it back through them but it is confusing.

All very confusing !! Daisy rang the credit card company yesterday and they said to claim from our flight supplier ie Freedom flights via Atol but the form says the opposite. Looks like we will pay the extra and go from Birmingham, after costing it out this morning with the extra on the flight but the night less in hotel plus Graeme will not have to take an extra days holiday there is about £20 difference so not worth the trek to Gatwick, also the flight times are good 7am out and 2pm return so very little hanging about in Rhodes. Pleased you got your flight sorted out Di, you can relax now ;D

Checked again with credit card company and they insist as Freedom Flights has an Atol certificate we have to make our claim through them

Daisy The info from Freedm Flights is that if you paid by your credit card the CAA will not refund payment and that you should contact your credit card suppliers to claim it back www.caa.co.uk/docs/1804/Freedom_Flights_Claim_Form.pdfI've eventually managed to get through to the xl helpline and have been told that although it states our contract was with Freedom Flights, as we made the booking through xl.com we are not atol covered and will need to claim it back through the credit card supplier They did however say that we could also claim back the cost of replacement flights as xl weren't offering any replacement flights Apparently they are sending out letters explaining everything.
