Kai Ftais (The last taverna on the left standing with your back to the sea) Mentioned elsewhere on here. They do small plates (saucers actually) of the less well known mezze. They are offered at happy hour (the board didn't say what time happy hour was) at a set price with either wine or ouzo. It works like this, you get a random section of 4 plates with your drinks, if you order more you will get a different 4 to try. We went one lunch time and didn't want ouzo or wine, we just had two soft drinks and asked for a selection of the mezze. Anna cooked us liver, pork meatballs with mint, sausage with green beans in tomato and there was also one cold plate of fava beans sort of mashed up with onion & olive oil. Neither of us being big liver fans, we surprised ourselves as we put this dish as number 1, quickly followed by the pork meatballs and then the sausage dish. The only one that wasn't a hit with us was the only cold dish served, the fava beans, saying that it was quite edible. ;D The couple staying in the next room to us said it was quite busy on an evening with Greek customers when they walked past, I think that is who they are aiming at, whether this was locals, or tourists I do not know. Anna & her son were lovely & so was the food and it was just the right amount for a light lunch on a hot day. The cost for two soft drinks & 4 plates was 13€ Also RRE is a bit funny about fish so I asked for no fish dishes and Anna said there weren't any.

It's very good and a great place to stop off on the way home at night if you are living at that side of town. Yannis and Anna were very entertaining. Looking forward to out return on Sept 01. Not too sure about the sheep's intestines though.

That reminds me of a bar ( O Baralino) on Funchal Marina (Madeira). They gave a small bowl of "something" in tomato sauce with the beers. Turned out to be small pieces of intestines about little finger diameter; you could see the villi. I tried, but I prefer salty and crunchy to slimy and chewy (although I do like oysters). Even spearing the beasties with a coctail stick was tricky. The dogs ate well!
Is that the sort of thing Stuart?

Pretty much Simon - I cleared the plate although I wouldn't say I enjoyed it too much. It did actually taste vaguely like haggis, but without all the other bits and pieces that makes haggis a tasty and spicy treat. Had a plate of fish at Ftenagia, which I believe are called Germano. Like a kind of prehistoric sea perch - bit like the fish in Piranha 3D. They were either grilled or baked with loads of salt. Not a lot of meat on the bone, but pretty tasty, especially the eyes.

Germanos (Gr/Halki possibly just the Dodecanese): Dusky Spinefoot & Marbled Spinefoot (En) Scientific binomial Siganus (Genus) S luridus = Dusky S rivulatus = Marbled
You can see them at Ftenagia swimming around! Flesh is similar to John Dory, but in my opinion inferior, mostly because there is a lot less of it (skinny) and the fish is small.
Never eaten the eyes! Did they satisfy the appetite to see you through the week?

fava beans always remind me of Hannibal Lecter "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. ..." Intestines well won't even go there and as for eyes Stuart Think I might be with Carol on this one

Yep - I've seen these little spiky buggers swimming around and Ftenagia. There's not a lot of meat on those bones. I'm fairly sure that I saw Leli with a plate of six or more of them, but I doubt whether even that number would deliver as much fishy goodness as your average Haddock

We love it, the mezes are brilliant. Planning on taking over the place for John's birthday in September, and inviting most of Halki of course. Mind you Annas sister Maria at Minori is a fab cook too.
