Hello Everyone,
We will be visiting Halki for the first time in June and as the cost is so high for a taxi from the airport to Kamiros, I wondered if anyone had any info about the ferries from Rhodes Town to Halki? Catching the boat there would make for a shorter taxi journey and cut costs, unless of course that boat is much more expensive
thanks in advence Stella

Assuming you are travelling on a wednesday your problem will be that you will need to overnight in Rhodes town twice to travel with the catamaran from/to rhodes/halki. These travel tues & thurs 8am from rhodes & approx 4pm back to rhodes. Book in advance via web for large discount, I got 50%. www.12ne.grThe big ferry will be travelling too but schedule not nailed down yet, I think. Think you may have to bite the bullet & pay the taxi fare ! Try to arrange a taxi share, other people will be travelling.

You can go via Rhodos town (from Airport to Town and then to Kamiros) , there is a daily local bus from Rhodos town to Kamiros Scala. 1.20 or 1.40 pm and the Kamiros ferry waits for the bus arrival.
From Airport there is also a bus to Rhodos town, much cheaper than the taxi. Very easy. Can give you more information later if you need, now I´m in hurry, going to Greece tomorrow for a 2 week stay and 6 days in Halki. greetings, Maria

Just to clarify a few points. Yes, the taxis are getting progressively more expensive. So is fuel; see elsewhere. That said It cost me less this time (March as opposed to January) to get from Pastida to the airport. I have no alternative, and I don't do it very often! You have omitted the vital information; your day of travel. The bus leaves Rodos at 13:30 and there is, or was, a stop near, or in, the airport. The ferry does wait. However it is a bus, not a coach and I don't know how equipped they are for suitcases. It is mostly a school and shoppers' bus. It has been more than two years since I last had to use it and I never had a lot of stuff to transport when I did. On Wednesdays the ferry times are different from Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri. Saturdays and Sundays are different too. Added to this changes are likely to take place regarding the ownership of the N.E. & N.H. (Retirement) So...
I strongly suggest you contact Zifos Travel; see elsewhere.
I can assure you, you will enjoy your visit and it is probably worth that taxi fare!

the Taxi can be great fun as all the drivers are interested why you have chosen to stay on Halki ( the rock) some are fully apreciative of the Halki experience others are some what confused. if you get the ones that are keen to get you to the ferry "even more fun". the price from Rhodes to Kamiros Scala is set and not too bad it's the return journey that costs.

Hi All, Thanks for the the replies. Maria - I would definitely be glad of the info when you return. We travel on Wednesdays in June. We usually use rucksacks, so don't need a coach. If we can get it down so we only have to get a taxi back to the airport and get a bus on our inward journey, it sounds like that will save us the price of a meal (on a very tight budget this year)

...or if you contact Jane at Zifos Travel (as Kinygos suggested) - she might be able to organise a taxi share - we've done this a couple of times - half the cost to about 25 Euros.
