Rumours and hunches abound in the charter industry but it seems likely that Wyatt, the Icelandic guy and his cronies are up to their tricks yet again. Many employees are still owed from the last debacle in 2010. Tor Air (which may eventually appear on your Olympic Holiday booking!!) looks like the re-emergence of this bunch of crooks with their string of failures: Excel/XL/Viking/Viking HEllas/Argo/Libra/Gold Trail/Flight Options & Kiss. Do you want to book with Tor this season?? Tor Air itself has arisen from the ashes of Tor Air AB and linked to Fly Excellent, all managed by the same bloke. Both collapsed! Now Strategic. They did have their operation curtailed in France over safety issues and the French are not too enchanted that the Luxembour authorities have now re- issued them with a licence. I gather there are quite a few French tour operators who would be happy to enlighten Olympic about their new bed fellows. Olympic are probably one of remaining cheap 7/14 night, self catering operators and possibly the only one. Monarch have pulled out of their association with Olympic. Charter airlines have woken up to the fact that there is no future in dealing with likes of Olympic. So, they have secured two aircraft from Strategic for their 2011 summer season. Currently both Tor and Strategic are recruiting staff to man them. Let us hope they ever get paid. I won't be on any of them. Watch this space. (Yet again )

Hope it is for the right reasons you cancel Di and not what I say. I only write what I pick up on an "insider" forum and you know what forums are like - hotbeds of gossip However, that said, what has been whispered in years gone by has usually turned out to be kosher. Good luck.

As I am sat in a bar in Halki ;D Unfortunately only for 2 more days. I can confirm no sightings of Caraline. Learned my lesson with dodgy airlines last year and will stick to ones with their own planes, not some 2nd hand leased plane.

A further insider quote:-
The former chief executive of the XL Leisure Group has been linked with a new venture to run flights from Manchester and Gatwick to Mediterranean sun destinations this summer.
Phil Wyatt was said to be "quietly building up another travel empire" in a report in the Sunday Times yesterday.
The paper said Wyatt planned to run fthe flights through Tor Air, a Swedish airline. It also said he was linked with new the travel websites, flytorair, com, skymiddleeast.com and flyhellas.com.
It pointed to a link between flytorair and flyhellas because the domain names for both sites are owned by Meridian Aviation, which is run by Phil Wyatt's brother Jim.
Other links were said to be that one of the directors of Tor Air is Philip Lintoott-Clarke, who was chief pilot at XL. Skymiddleeast was said to book flights between Gatwick, Manchester and the Middle East using Tor Air as its operating carrier.
Wyatt was also linked to Viking Airlines AB, which suspended operations in October, through his investment vehicle, Black Peark Investments

I've been asked to remove Di's Postings from this thread -I've left the early ones so the thread still has some sense to it .

All for now on this matter. We shall see how the year progresses and hopefully nobody will have their holidays marred by dodgy flights.

Just had communication from Olympic. Yes, my flight with Monarch has been changed... ::)s. Now we are booked with STU (is that Strategic?) As long as we get there I suppose. Unfortunately it doesn't land until 4pm so that could mean a taxi ride instead of Nissia's coach. Roll on September. If anyone else flies with 'STU' before then, their comments would be appreciated!

Just had a look on Olympic's website and did a quick search on holidays to Halki. STU is Strategic.

They appear to be operating the majority of Olympic's Rhodes Flights. I'm sure that someone going in May will be able to provide feedback
