Hi Tony What a coincidence We spent a couple of hours on Sunday looking at Tinos on various sites as we were looking for somewhere we haven't been and it's one of the few Greek islands that's pretty easy to get to (there are at least 4 ferry connections each day from Mykonos). We were also looking at Lipsi, but this would involve a stop over in Kos at the beginning and end of the holiday or a night flight. From what I read, there are numerous holy festivals throughout the year and as a result the main town gets very busy with pilgrims who flock to the island to visit the Sacred Church of the Evangelist (they crawl on their hands and knees up to the church) and various other holy sites - it attracts 1,000's of people each year. Any nightlife seems to revolve around the town. The waterfront is also a bit "quirky" in that it has 2 and 3 storey buildings crammed in along the front, with the smaller narrow streets behind this. The beaches are meant to be fantastic, however what put us off was that most of the accommodation appears to be in hotels (it attracts a lot of Athenians), whereas we were looking for a studio or appartment. When we did find studios, they seem to be a bit "out in the sticks" and we thought it might be a bit too quiet for us (we need at least a few tavernas and bars). Although we decided Tinos wasn't for us, it really depends what you're looking for. There are a number of sites (some appear older than others) but if you just google "Tinos Greece" you can nose around them to your hearts content One thing that was mentioned was that if you are travelling from Piraeus, you are advised to book your ferry well in advance as it is nearly always full Happy hunting

Hi Di Thanks for that. After closer investigation, we have come to the same conclusion as yourself. We also much prefer small self catering studios/apartments which seem to be a bit scarce on Tinos, or as you say "out in the sticks". Oh well, will keep on searching, there are plenty of places out there!
