Has anyone stayed on Alonissos? We've booked in for next year, staying in Patitiri. Any comments would be gratefully received. Yes, I know it's probably nowhere nearly as gorgeous as Halki but it could be interesting. Thanks.

Certainly have and we loved it. However, that was "so" long ago that any comments I would make would be worthless so I won't apart from saying that it was (& probably still is) a wonderful island. I always felt Patitiri was a drab featureless place as it was thrown together when an earthquake devastated the Chorio. When I was there the Chorio was still a ghost village but I believe it is far from that nowadays. Enjoy.

Thanks for the post, sth. I'm looking forward to seeing the Chorio and hopefully Patitiri has gained a bit more character.

Hi Morgana, Di here reporting in from a bar on the harbour front at patitiri. Alonissos is lovely, very green and very hot at the moment. Nothing at all like Halki, it reminds me more of Italy or Croatia. Food is very good, people are lovely, just wish they stayed up a bit later (most places looking to close by midnight, where is Apostolis when you need him ). Beaches are very 'Greek', all the locals descend on mass at about 5pm for 'Ella time'. Word of warning, you will have calf muscles to rival Mick McManus by the time you go home as its very steep. Having a lovely time

Food is lovely as are the people (just wished they stayed open a bit later, everywhere looking to close by 12pm (where is Apostolis when you need him? ). Word of warning, it's very steep. I now have legs to rival Mick McManus Nothing at all like Halki, more like Italy or Croatia, but I'm sure you'll love it.

Hi. Like sth I visited Alonissos many years ago (1981) and loved it. Stayed outside Patitiri at Marpounta. Visited the chorio where all the houses were deserted after the earthquake but one taverna there had re-opened. Very green, very unlike Halki but beautiful nevertheless.

I do like the bit about no-one around at midnight - my sort of place, Who wants after??? Can do that at home!! Go for quiet, want quiet, need quiet - nuff said!!!!

As and added extra - the climbs - calf muscles and the look at an aerial view (you tube) makes me think that for this year at least - Halki is a good choice!!

Elf, If you like good food in lovely surroundings, try to visit Astrofegia in the old village. We ate there three times and had great food and service every time. A bit more pricey than other places but worth it. It's reviewed on Trip Advisor.
