hi, there is an new alternate flight, very cheap, with Ryan Air to Kos. Does anybody know, when the summer schedule for the ferries begins ? I know, that the catamaran runs between Halki and Kos. But there is no schedule for May. In summer I see ships and ferries every day, but I don´t know if it is easy to come via Kos. Maybe a new adventure. thanks for infos Maria

Hi Maria,
The katamaran timetable is out until May 16th. There will be a connection between Kos and Chalki on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Departure from Kos 13.15, arrival at Chalki 15.45. Hope this information helps. Best regards, Ermioni

Maria, as far as I know this new routing will only operate from Milan & Frankfurt so will be of little interest to UK members at this time.

Another point to remember when considering a Ryanair flight (I use them quite often) is that they are only marginally cheaper than their rivals and then ONLY if you are prepared to travel with hand luggage. Once you indicate a checked in bag on you online booking form, your flight rapidly becomes much more expensive. I suspect there are very few of us who would wish to travel to Halki for 2/3 weeks with hand luggage alone in order to save a few Euro and take a circuitous route in doing so. Now if they were to operate in the future from UK to Rhodes - then they may be worth a glance. For my money, Eastjet offer a much more pleasant flight at about the same costing. Sorry if this sounds negative but flying Ryanair for me is a last resort.

Hi sth,
Maria is located in Germany. If she is close to Frankfurt - by the way, the airport in question is Frankfurt-Hahn and not the big airport in Frankfurt proper - Ryanair might be a good choice.
Best regards, Ermioni

Sure, good luck to her if she can get from there to Halki in a manner that suits. Whatever floats your boat

Just for Information, the airport Franfurt-Hahn is not even near to Franfurt. Ist nearly 100 miles north-west absolute in the nowhere. Its one of the airports you only can reach by air. Kos airport is also far away from Kos town. Ryanair loves to make jokes with airports, like the new one they call Munich west. Can you imagine how many passengers are very surprised that the missed the Hofbrau House by 70 miles
Have a good time Chalkibert

Sometimes the tortuous route can be rewarding for specialist needs. UK provincial airports rarely go to the destinations you want. When I used to commute from Norwich I used Stanstead; a most convenient flight, which of course got "the chop". I then used Norwich airport to Schiphol (KLM) and Schiphol to Diagoras (Transavia). This necessitated an overnight in the Ibis airport hotel Amsterdam on the way out. When I told friends this I got the Harry Enfield "You don't want to do it like that!". These people were mostly based in the home counties. I found it preferable to the process of getting to Heathrow or Gatwick, by train or bus; yes I did try, and it was a nightmare. More expensive? Sure, a bit, but not as much as you might think, and no hassles. The "hand luggage only" requirement is the major drawback with Ryanair, but not insoluble. Otherwise it may be worth checking out whether your local airport flies to a hub which can get you to Rhodes.

hello, thanks, all. I`m German and I know where Frankfurt-Hahn is. From several German cities there is a very good bus-connection to Hahn, it`s a very good alternate to my home-city, can go by car, not far away and have a cheap place to park. (Much better than Frankfurt). At Ryan Air you can take 10 kg hand back. Enough for for me for 1o days Chalki in summer. I know, Kos is not my "dream-island", but to spend there 1 or 2 nights waiting for the catamaran is not too bad to me - just like a stay in Rhodes. But the price for the Kos-flight is a real alternative. Looking for the summer schedule of the catamaran and we`ll see. Organization is my favorite. Gr. Maria

And Kos airport isn't really that far from Kos Town. The airport's in the centre of the island, so not that far from anywhere!

hi, just booked the flight to Kos to go to Halki in May. We´ll see how the ferries run between Kos and Halki. Think, it`s possible to get the catamaran same day. The alternate is to go first to Rodes and then to Halki. We´ll find out. Hope the summer schedule of the catamaran is soon online. See you all end of May. Gr. Maria
