I can't see any problem with that as more and more people are finding it more convenient to travel independentlythese days. I am sure they will prove popular. They are in such a great location

Quite a few people who used to post on the old Halki noticeboard used to stay in Hiona and loved it so I am sure that you would do well letting it independantly particularly after all the problems people have encountered this year, a lot of people including us who have used a travel company every year have now decided to sort out our own arrangements, good luck

We love Hiona, we have always stayed there........
Only downside, was that on our last stay on Halki (and at Hiona) was that either side of us for one week was one 'large family' of 'young' teenagers who fely it acceptable to shout, run around the terrace and generally be a pain in the backside. The next week saw us sharing the terrace with two Lesbians (and they were, we heard them at it all afternoon)......... who emptied the studio onto the terrace, chairs, tables etc and instead of eating at the taverna's had a BBQ every night...........
Made our stay quite taxing.........
If they are marketed, then from my selfish point of view they need to aimed at people who intend and want a 'quiet, relaxing' holiday and is unsuitable for 'children'...........

Renting directly is reasonably attractive - although coming from Scotland it's as easy using DG flying from Edinburgh. If it works out cheaper then (as a regular visitor) we would do it.
We stayed in one of the studios in August - my kids loved it - particularly the swimming directly in front. The downside with Hiona is the dampness in the toilet and bedroom - it's pretty bad and smells really bad - I wouldn't go back unless it was sorted out.

I think in general, Hiona needs abit of attention to bring it up to standards to which 'we' expect. The location is the best, but you should not be expected to sacrifice standards for a good location. But then again, if they can be let by the day/weekend why bother with the expense of improving them.

If this is the Hiona with Direct Greece, it is (was when we there two years ago) in need of some improvement. Not the best accommodation in Halki, but it was very cheap - and we had the top floor, which had a huge terrace. Oh, and the beds were tiny, like children's beds. Mind you, it had two showers and two kitchens.

Hi, Just saw your message now, after I had e-mailed a query to Zifos. Having been to Halki in 1987, and always dreaming of coming back, we are looking for a place to stay in August 2009. Last time we took the advice of Rough Guide and just landed on the quay and loooked around for accommodation. We stayed in Mary's House. Villa Hiona reminds us of that. We would prefer to book direct witht he owners. Seems like we need to book well in advance, 22 years on! Anyone there with a studio to let? Our needs are very simple. Direct access to the sea would be heaven for us! Mags

Hi Mags, certainly dont advise you to just turn up in August you may be very dissapointed. There are a few links on this board to independant properties, we will be travelling independantly for the first time this year and will be renting Villa Yorgos, it is a lovely property but not waterside, have a search on here and ask any questions someone will probably know something that will help you ;D
