What is likelihood of getting accom at v. short notice? Came through last season on a charter yacht - liked the place, thought it might be nice to stop over next time if the boat gets too claustrophobic. On my wanderings I saw a few nice places but all seem to be taken well in advance. Residents confirmed this. Not much towards the Hotel. Spoke to an english guy who has a large garden over there who doesn't let but suggested the hotel which does not seem to have awebsite or this site. Any ideas/leads?

Hi nemo, it may not be very easy to get accomodation at very short notice, a lot of the visitors are people who go year after year and book accordingly, if you are thinking of going high season I would not really reccomend it. Zifos travel and Nissia holidays are the main sources of accomodation but there are also lots of properties that are rented independantly many of which have their websites on this site. When were you thinking of going ?

Nemo
I could be wrong but thought that I had seen the newly renovated hotel under the auspices of Sunvil. Recent Sunday broadsheet newspaper travel column!!
Haven't had my usual Direct Greece brochure this year and quite definitely nothing from Manos so far. As previously stated Nissia and Ziphos Travel provide the best options. Olympic have one or two properties if they are not already taken.

Hi Nemo,
You do not say how many people are involved, or the duration. The short answer is "Not good!" As you rightly state; The villas are mostly booked a week at a time Wednesday to Wednesday, and so are out. This is hotel stuff, and there is only one of those. The gateway in is via Zifos Travel. I think it is only fully booked when a conference is on.
I used to stay at my old mate "Manarvi"'s place "The Marcos Apartments". Forget stars; it has seen better days, and is therefore not fully booked. That is a possiblity; they do "days". The rooms are doubles and there are three of them. Take the road up from the bakery/grill house; it swings left and then a hairpin right. "Marcos" is the first place on your left virtually on the hairpin.
I appreciate your problem if you are coming by yacht with the vagaries of the sea, more so if you are a dedicated "rag and stick" man; too few of those about, and lovely to see!
Good luck!

j90,Direct Greece no longer exist. They have been taken over by thomas cook/manos. I must say that the quality of the manos brochure is very poor compared to the ones we used to get from Direct Greece.

I have just put the hotel phone numbers under a seperate heading, Nemo it is called Hiona Art Hotel, it might be worth enquiring about rooms however when we were there in September it was full.

Nemo
I knew I wasn't going mad just yet. I googled Sunvil Halki and got greece-holidays.sunvil.co.uk.
The Hiona Art Hotel is listed as are Villa Ftenagia and Villa Evi.
That info is purely for the record. Kinygos and others are absolutely correct re short notice accommodation but Zifos Travel are always helpful.
Good luck

Sunfun
Thanks for info re TC/Manos. Last August on Halki there were rumours but nothing firm. Can't see TC/Manos bothering for too long but must say that Sunvils 'as yet minimal involvement' is interesting!

Nemo, having sailed in parts of the Dodecanese I can understand your possible desire for a more luxurious break on land for a few days (with nice showers etc!). I think the hotel would be your best bet for short notice stay; it tends only to be busy on the relatively rare occasions when there are conferences, which in the past have tended to be in September. It used to be a simple, typical Greek harbourside hotel but was refurbished and made more upmarket a couple of years ago and so is now more pricey than in the past (last year's prices were from 70 euros per night for a single room, higher in peak season), but it has a lovely setting. It has a website www.hionaart.gr or try Google. If sailing towards Halki you could presumably phone ahead to check availability. Phone No I think is +30 22460 or 45244. Email is: info@hionaart.gr.

Woops, I've now just seen Carol's posting on another thread about the hotel - some info duplicated there!

Interesting to see Sunvil have now got involved, it would be good if another tour operator took on some of the properties particularly as Manos have greatly reduced their numbers this year. Muriman thanks for getting the hotel website on here, I couldnt get it to work for me !! I must say it is a classy site, the photos are stunning and brought back happy memories of sitting on that beautiful terrace watching the sun go down ;D

Another web site to add to the list. I stayed at the hotel in Rhodes town, very good & reasonable rates. 40 euro per night b&b in Feb for double with aircon etc. The family are from Halki & have bought more property recently. Few villas now on Halki. www.atlantisgroup.gr/
