First “The Black Sea” sign is still up, but “Avra” has been added. The pictures of the opening are elsewhere. “Avra” is now run by Marina’s (of the bakery) sisters and is renamed Minori. It is a Cretan restaurant. Here are the pictures of the opening night. If you would rather not have known about this, sorry you were warned! I was asked to post this, so I am not disclosing secret business deals! Please, no whinges this time!

Thanks for the news. It's little bits of info like that that keeps us going through the winter months. It's good to know Halki and her residents are getting on with life without us.! Cretan sounds good. Looking forward to sampling it. Pity I will have to wait till September, but no doubt there will be updates on the culinary changes long before then.

Hope you arrived safely on 22nd, was George the taxi driver ? He said he was collecting someone when he took us to the airport. As you will see the weather is pretty good now, we had 18-20 most days & no rain, (after the massive storm in early Feb). All the shops are open except for Theodossias gift shop. Tavernas open were the Black Sea Avra, Marinas sisters occasionaly and the one where Aretis bar was (forgot name, Moutharia ?). The new fast food shop was supposed to be opening this week so need a review please.... Galandis is much better now & "resting" at the cafe. Beach at Pondamos has taken a hammering & looks terrible at the moment. It may come back before the season starts but some work needed. Arty view ! Manolis's new scrap van, nifty self made convertible. Rhodes old town painters. Amused me anyway..... and finally. Bit out of focus but I was rushing for catamaran. The things you see on the Halki jetty !!

The weather is better but we have a few problems. Lufthansa are on strike and I now understand so are Greek ATC. Maria has not contacted me. I understand the Lufthansa thing is going on for some time. If you didn't make it Maria please let me know. I just hope the industrial action does not go on through the summer.

hi, everybody.
Just back from Halki and had a great time. We had 2 taxi after landing in Rhodos airport to the city, because we left to Halki with ANEK. On our way back in the morning we took the bus from KS to Rhodos, spent the day there until the evening flight. Food was very good in the Halki-Restaurants, the shops and the bakery are open. Avra moved where "Black-Sea" was before, the cooking is excellent. We were there as a group of 8 people. Try to send photos. Gr. Maria

hi, we tried every open Restaurant - and everywhere food was good. The new takeaway had good salad and good potatoes. Due to the weeks before Easter (fast) they don`t serve a lot, only few meals. No dinner "a la carte" at this time. You have to ask, what is cooked today. And this was always enough and very good typical Greek meal. We were a group of 8. Avra was good prepared that we didn`t leave the table hungry. (open was Avra, Kiki, and the new takeaway and Theodosisas cafe with wlan-internet)
Be back in Halki in June. Look forward on all the changes. gr. Maria
