Will be there in Feb myself but leaving on 22nd. The big ferry web site is : web.anek.gr/portal/page/portal/ANEK_prodGoes to/from Halki on mondays & thursdays The catamaran site is : www.12ne.gr/en/index.aspGoes to Halki on tues & thurs mornings returning to Rhodes in the afternoons. We fly out & stay in Rhodes town a couple of days then travel out when seas ok. Rhodes town is much more relaxing to visit with no tourists & well worth a couple of days.

Di - the easiest transfer to Tilos on a wednesday is usually by the fast Sea Star which leaves Mandraki harbour around 6pm. It didn't run for the first part of last season (and transfers were via Halki) but it should be up and running when you go in August all things being equal.

Time schedule KS-Halki is easy to understand:
Full moon: Ferry leaves “on time*”
No moon: Ferry leaves “on time*”
High tide: Ferry leaves “on time*”
Low tide Ferry leaves “on time*”
Mediterian Sea has no tide, also: Ferry leaves “on time*”
Weather is sunny Ferry leaves “on time*”
Weather is cloudy Ferry leaves “on time*”
It rains Ferry leaves “on time*”
Michalis from “Nikos Express” is in bad mood: Ferry leaves “on time*”
Michalis from “Nikos Express” is in good mood: Ferry leaves “on time*”
Elias from “Nissos Halki” has to go to court Ferry leaves “on time*”
Passiakos from “Nissos Halki” has an appointment with the dentist Ferry leaves “on time*”
“on time” will be set by the captain and may be between 2:30 pm and midnight
Chalkibert (just planning my return in May)

Amusing, but unfortunately true No.1!
I recall a story about a Soviet train which was running late; "The train is not late, the arrival time has been re-scheduled"!
It also applied to trains on the "Wherry Line"!

I have never seen a more accurate description of Halki~KS ferry operation and have been subjected to most of them. This Modus Operandi will take many years and the passing of all the current operators to have any chance of improvement. Well noted Chalkibert ;D ;D

I think there is a boat every day from KS to Halki and back but depending on the day it may tie in with daytrippers

We want to get a Ferry early on Thursday 27th from Rhodes but can't find any morning sailings. However, we have heard that there is a 10. am boat. Is this right, and if so, why can't we find it anywhere on the internet. We also need to leave early on Sunday morning. We have heard there is an 8.00 am but but, again, we can't find it?

Hi Molly welcome I think the 10am boat you refer to is the day tripper boat from KS

We all would like to help newcomers to Halki, and yet when asked the times of the local ferries we appear to be unhelpful and evasive. The fact is that most of the questions you, quite rightly, ask are in fact unanswerable. The local ferries (Nikos Express & Nissos Halki) do not obey rules, as you would understand them. Therefore, nobody will be willing to say that on a given day this ferry will depart at a given time. Jane at Zifos travel will not be able to help you either, and she is the fount of all knowledge of all things Halki. It is true to say that the chances are that on any given day a ferry will run, and that is about as good as it gets. Is it satisfactory? The ferry owners think so. As for the customers, well this is Greece (You have no option so put up with it!). Wednesday is the Manos and Nissia transfer day, so the departure times are under their control. Weekends; times variable subject to day trip tour operators; insufficient demand, no day trip. The Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday ferries do a supposedly timetabled run from Halki at 06:00 and return at 14:20. This is timed to a local bus, which picks up near the Macedonia restaurant. So today (31/05/10), I got to the ferry at 05:45 to see that it was not leaving until 07:00. I have a car, which is just as well because the bus would have been long gone! Similarly, the return trip may not leave until 16:00 on a seemingly random basis. Arrive on the bus and wait one and a half hours for departure. Now strange things are afoot. The above ferries are scheduled subsidised runs and have been charged at €8.50 for years. At other times the fee was €10.00. No tickets were issued, or they have not been until last week when everyone got a ticket. When I crossed on Friday 28/05/10 I was charged €5.00 with no ticket (other people got tickets), and the port police were there to meet her when she docked. I thought this strange! The return trip (at 07:00) was charged at €4.00 and I was given a ticket. I have heard an explanation for the presence of the port police, the tickets, and the suddenly reduced fares. I will not give it as I cannot verify its authenticity. So, sorry people, we really can't tell you accurate information about the ferries.

Andreah According to the Greek Ferry Website www.gtp.gr, the DODEKANISOS EXPRESS leaves Rhodes town at 09.00 Sunday arriving Halki at 10.15. This will mean that you do not have to get a taxi to Kamiros which is quite expensive.
