Have managed to secure Kaliopi for a belated weeks holiday next week. Many times on Halki but not at Kaliopi. We know where it is but on querying Olympic offices they believe that there is no aircon' or fan. They suggest, on arrival, that if we find neither we should ring the Rhodes Olympic office. I suspect therefore that the acquisition of fans might be a protracted undertaking.
Has anyone stayed at Kaliopi and are there any fans? Does Zifos provide the Halki cover for the Rhodes office?
Grateful for any info.

:)Hi j90.There are reviews on holiday watchdog for the kaliopi. Seems you could hire fans from the travel office at one time, hope you still can.

Thanks Sunfun, I'll give it a whirl. They loaned us a fan for Kleanthe last year so might do the honours again.

Kleanthe is a single storey villa about 2 levels up roughly behind Remezzo ie between Black Sea and Theodosias. Entrance through small kitchen. 2 bedrooms, the 2nd accessed through the 1st. Toilet and shower are at the kitchen end. Those in 2nd bedroom have to go through 1st bedroom to get to the toilet!
Cooking a large meal might be challenging with the equipment to hand but part of Halki's charm is eating out so we were not inconvenienced.
The patio is fairly large and has 2 sunbeds and umbrellas. The 1st bedroom has a door to the patio. Fairly steep steps from path to patio and entrance but not many and I managed even with hip awaiting replacement!
Views of harbour but somewhat partially obscured by buildings between Kleanthe and the harbour.
Pondamos and Ftenagia similar distances and harbour front just minutes.
Yes, I would use it again but one has to understand the bedroom arrangements in association with the toilet and shower. Kleanthe was Direct Greece of course. Conjecture who they might be with next year.
Hope this helps.

I stayed in Kaliopi in July. There's no air con, no fans. But there is a back and a front door and windows, so you can open them both to get a breeze through. It was very hot while we were there, but we managed without any electrical assistance (sounds ruder than I meant that to be! ).

We stayed at the Kaliopi last year - upper floor. Great view and a pleasant breeze through the studio if you left both doors open. It was HOT and we didn't need fans. Enjoy the break.
PS I think we counted 72 steps up from the harbour but after an ouzo or two this is just an approximation!

My pleasure, j90. The best approach is to take full advantage of all the wonderful viewpoints - and to take your time admiring the fantastic mosaic in the churchyard. Oh - and make sure you've got a little something in the fridge to revive you!

Not the place to stay if you have walking difficulties, your friendly travel agent / holiday company should have informed you of this

Halki is not the place to be if you have walking difficulties. For many years the original tour companies made that very clear in their brochures. Now, the mass tourism operators take your cash and couldn't care less how you get around or even if.

That's true sth.Mr sunfun managed to trip and fall(completely stone cold sober) becayse there are so many uneven bits on the pavements.Luckily it was only a sprained ankle and not broken, but it was bad enough.

Lots of sound advice and I thank you all for it, however it is with full knowledge of the Halki terrain that we booked again this year for the 14th time.
I've only ever counted the steps to The Captain's House and last year Kleanthe. I was fairly sure that Kaliopi was another level above Captain's House but didn't know how many steps beyond. It was good of Dawn to tell me how many and I offered a little joke about my hip, as well as my thanks.
My hip started to deteriorate circa 2005 and I finally required the new one last Christmas. However, it never stopped me from coming to Halki each year. I was grateful for the new paving of the Boulevarde, but everwhere else, just used a bit of savvy for the challenges.
I don't know that I would allow the fact that I had a new hip to stop me from coming to Halki. I heartily agree that travel companies should supply in-depth information about the resort but in the end it is a personal decision methinks.
