Has anyone any info on what Halki is like at the end of October please. Been many times in May and early September but never at the end of the season. Not sure what the weather/ferry crossing is like and what facilities are still available. Thanks.

The end of October is wonderful, the sea is still very warm, the sun shines most days and it is not too hot. Also things are very relaxed at the end of the season. On the down side, it gets dark fairly early, some of the local businesses will have closed down and it can get a bit stormy at times. We were there till the end of October in 07, we had both beaches to ourselves for 2 or 3 days and we were there for OXI day, a public holiday. Word of warning though, you travel arrangements have to be flexible. Last time our ferry did not leave Piraeus, we could not get on the one from Rhodes and we had to fly up to Athens from Diagorus Airport, a place that I hate. However, when we went to get the flight, there were only 2 departures that morning and the airport was empty. We are going again this year and staying till about the 25th October, so we may see you there?

Ariadne, Howard is totally correct in what he says but, I would add a little rider. Having spent many late Octobers and Novembers in Halki, the weather is certainly not 'always' wonderful and sunny so you should go prepared for cold, rain & wind. Hopefully, if you venture there then, you will enjoy the weather Howard speaks of. It is more the norm.

Hi Ariadne I usually go for the first 2 weeks in May and the first 2 weeks in October and I find the weather very similar both times, I have been the last 2 weeks in October and as Howard says some of the tavernas will close and it is quiet but still fabulous. You will need something to cover up with at night as it can be a bit chilly and there can be some very interesting weather at times! I'm sure you'll love it though. Howard - I'll probably see you and Linda there, I'm there from 30 Sep til 14th Oct

Hi All
We've just returned home yesterday from Molyvos in Lesbos, longing for a trip to Halki next September as we haven't been since May 08. I've just spent the best part of all afternoon grappelling unsuccessfully (as usual) with Direct Holidays/Thomas Cook/Manos's search unfriendly websites.
We've stayed twice at the Hiona with Direct Greece and would love to go there again. Is this property still available anywhere? I see Zifos are offering Hiona but it's not the same one, is that the newer properties next door to the one we stayed at?
There's only 2 of us and we would like waterfront property in the same sort of area as DG Hiona, can anybody please point me in the right direction?

Well I've just tried Direct Holidays and the chap I got couldn't even find that a Direct Greece brochure has been issued, doesn't know if one will be and thought it would be very late for one to be issued.
Has anybody seen a 2010 DG brochure?
Not looking good so far.

Well the woman at Thomas Cook hadn't even heard of Direct Greece All she could find was the Hiona Art Hotel. I want to go to Hiona studios, stand in a bowl in the shower and crash out on the loungers by the sea. Apparently it's a lot to ask!
