Does anyone know if there is any accomodation at Kamiros Scala? I ask because it would be a good place to overnight if we missed the outbound ferry, or if we had to cross back a day early at the end of the holiday in order to catch an early flight. It is quite a nice spot so neither of these thigs would be too bad.

Hi John
I've had an overnight stay twice at Kamiros Skala, both times Jane organised it for me as part of the DG package (my flights had changed) I stayed at the orange coloured hotel and I stayed at the taverna (the one on the right as you approach) it has rooms upstairs, basic accomodthation but clean and fine for a night. I suggest you contact Jane at Zifos travel, I'm sure she could organise something for you. When I stayed at the taverna I think I was the only one staying but I don't know how busy they get if you just turned up looking for a room. An alternative if you miss the ferry is the water taxi, I heard that its only 12.50 Euros from Kamiros to Halki, don't know if he charges a call-out fee but its worth checking out - again if you contact Zifos they probably have a phone no for the water taxi.

Water taxi on a call out has always been horrendously expensive.

Surely whoever you're renting accommodation from should be the ones to help you with potential overnights in KS, taxis etc ... ask them to help you out. Some of the accommodation providers are possibly somewhat lazy in this respect and seem to expect others to deal with these sort of logistics. Make them work for your custom!

Thanks all. The idea of staying in KS is just a hypothetical, really. This is my first time making my own arrangements in these post-Laskarina days, and i just want to know my options.
I think the water taxi would scare the living daylights out of my other half, if it is the one that took me nd the kids round to trachea about five years ago!

johnr, in the past I've had the same thought as you, ie it's good to have a fall-back option in case it's needed when travelling independently. For that reason, some years ago I called at the taverna on the right at KS approaching from the land (ie not Loukas Taverna which is the one closer to the part where the ferries berth) to ask about accommodation in case I needed it. Yes, they have rooms for overnight stays. I obtained a card with their phone number but seem to have mislaid it and it's probably out of date now. If you, or anyone else reading this, have the opportunity sometime soon to call there and check, it would be useful to know the current phone number and other relevant info about overnight accommodation.

That is the one we always have lunch at when we are waiting for the ferry so I will get the phone numbers when we go if nobody does it before me ;D

johnr I don't have the number for the taverna rooms at KS but the Pension Liros (the orange building about 5 minutes walk from the harbour) is on 22460 31264 email: liros@otenet.gr We have stayed there a couple of times. The owners are very helpful and pleasant - they grow their own fruit and veg on site so good food as well.

Ann is right. It is a good pension and they will take you and your luggage to & from the caique.

I have stayed at the Liros, and, many years ago, at the taverna opposite the Loukas; taverna, not fast-food. The Water taxi will charge €250 for a call-out. That is what a Yachtie was quoted last week. I think he was asking me to oblige, but I cannot do this under any circumstances. (€250 is a fee for a boat full of 20 passengers on a normal trip.) Better to stay overnight at the Liros, or elsewhere.

Its always best to go with the schedules for the other boats which go from Rodos. Most go early in the morning rather than waiting around at Kamiros. Plus its cheaper to go into Rodos by taxi and usually easy to find a reasonable hotel in the centre.

pda Good advice, providing there is a convenient ferry from Colonia or Akantia. Otherwise Kamiros Skala offers more ferry options.
