Unfortunately this may not be of any use for anybody as the people who need to know cannot read this.
The port police have closed Halki harbour. This normally indicates a sea state of >6, however the available weather information does not indicate this. I suspect the variable wind direction is causing a problem. I am at home in Rhodes, so I know no more.

Just re-checked the weather at Rhodes airport, and win 8mps, but NW backing W, so it may be Kamiros SKala is too exposed rather than Halki as such. Not much help, sorry.

Now back home and I am none the wiser. It seems that all those leaving were put on the Spiliani and went to Colonia; Rodos. Jane tells me that Nikos Express & Nissos Halki still not allowed out. Spilliani is only marginally bigger than the two home ferries and has much further to go. I have just been into Rodos and on the way in I had a look at the sea at Kremasti it was 3. On the way back, just after I spoke to Jane, Trianda bay was a 2. It makes no sense at all, unless the problem is with the NW - W wind at Kamiros Skala. There is certainly a serious blow on down between Rhodes and Karpathos 6 - 7 probably gusting 8, but the ferries are not going to Karpathos. Perhaps the new port police lady is being over cautious? Good for chaos on a Wednesday!

Simon, you should know better,
Halki port authorities getting their instructions from Athens. If Athens says that there is a wind 7 at Halki then there is a wind 7 . They do not open the widow to check. This happend quite often in the past. In the old days an experienced seaman (e.g. Alex) could sign a paper for port authorities that the real weather condition does not fit into Athens forecast and the ferries could go. Best regards Your first officer

I have an update. The Spilliani 25 mins late back; groundbaiting occurred; she is a bit of a wallower. Local ferries still not moving. Guess the new arrivals will be staying in Rhodes one night? The Karpathos passage should be flat on Friday according to "Poseidon" (the weather site)

Simon, if you are going to post on every Halki port closure (Apagariftiko) then you may as well resign yourself to a full time job. Your Ch?Off is spot on (As always!

sth Not EVERY "Apayorevtiho", just the ones on Wednesdays! Well maybe not! This just seemed so strange with the Spilliani being allowed in and out but not the local ferries.
Glad you know the mighty Chalkibert; lander of huge fish! "It's a big one" Chalkibert!
To return to the matter of the closure. The port police lady is carrying the responsibilty. "Give a woman an inch and she thinks she's a ruler"
I'll get my coat!

Steven.. Sth is right ..Simons life is his own and not for anyone else to criticise ..its not the first time you've made snipeing coments . You were one of the first to complain about 8 months ago when another couple were having their privacy invaded and now you are doing the same . Coments like the one you've made above are neither constructive or helpfull and do not help the forum at all ..any further ones will be deleted ..I have no qualms about deleting your account either and if you continue to post in the manner which you have been doing then I will ..I hope it doesn't come to that but the choice is yours .

Liz, sth; thank you for springing to my defence!
I meant the final remark as a joke, hence, “I’ll get my coat”. However, I hold my hand up to the charge of “Not P.C.” Therefore, if the sexist joke upset anybody, I apologise.
I don’t think my lifestyle entered into this criticism, although an allusion was made previously, to which I did not respond, but certainly a public web based noticeboard is not the place to discuss such things.
Once again, I appeal to you all; friends discuss, argue, but do not quarrel. Responding to antagonism with antagonism compounds the evil; this is not the way of the Buddha.
