We had an enjoyable holiday in Skopelos in 1999. It is a beautifully wooded island. We stayed at Elios on the west side. Skopelos Town is delightful as is the village of Glossa. We had breathtaking views over the Aegean to Skiathos and Evvoia. There is a bus service running with reasonable timings from Skopelos Town to Glossa. I forget whether the bus then drops down along the hairpin bends to Loutraki below.
We used Thomson, who withdrew from the island at the end of that season.
Travel was through Skiathos. What a hair-raising landing at Skiathos! I have never had a landing where the plane braked so hard on touching down. Of course when the plane turned round we could seen why: the runway is so short that we were metres from going into the sea. And referring to the Skiathos thread, that is why the plane has to fuel at Thessaloniki; there is no way it could take off on that short runway with full tanks of fuel.
Waiting for the return flight at Skiathos involved trotting over to a taverna, and waiting for the rep to come across and tell us that the flight was ready.
The down-side of the travel that outward we were dropped in Skiathos Town and left for hours before the hyrdofoil took us to Skopelos. We had another four or five hours to kill in Skiathos Town on the way back.
The real test is whether we would go back. Of course we would, but we would go independently next time and take the hydrofoil to Loutraki. The owner of the property we used in 1999 offers to pick us up at the port!

Thanks for the info.
We hear have friends who go to Skopelos every year and they always stay in about 3 places, I think that their favourite is Panormos?
We've only been to Skopelos town do not really given it a chance. We did have a lovely fortnight on Alonissos though doubt that we would go back, a case of been there and done it. Would recommend it though.
