This may not be relevant to many people who read this, but it may be of benefit to some. Greek pay as you go mobile phones have to be registered, with your passport, at the appropriate shop, before the first of July this year. Failure to do so will mean that you will not be able to top it up, either at the appropriate shop, or with a scratch card from a kiosk/periptero. You have a year to do it and then the phone will be cut off. I don’t have to tell you that you will have to do this on Rodos; there are no appropriate shops on Halki. I was told this when I topped up recently. At first, I thought they were saying I had to take my passport every time I topped up! Thankfully not so! Once done you can carry on as usual. I have confirmed this in discussion with Christine, Jane, & Sheila. Of course we may find out more as it goes!

I just LOVE Greeks. Today I went, with Barbara; just arrived, to the Vodafone shop, which was closed; naturally. Well it was 14:35! However they opened up and told us that they had got it all wrong. It had to be done by the first of July next year. I am so glad I had a witness! We could register, but the shop was closed for the day. It seems also that there is also some way of doing it over the phone. I am still happy to live here. What is life without its little irritations? Sorry for the miss-information. Now going to have a cold beer! More satifying than a primal scream!
