Hi Sunfun. I used to do the same whilst I was waiting for Hubby to finish getting ready (what is it with men that they take so long ). Anyway, I've got loads of what I refer to as "mellow music" (Gary refers to it as "hippy sh*t" - sorry Lynn) but the best by far was Barber's Addagio for Strings - perfect ;D ;D

Thought that Leonard Cohen would come up somewhere in this thread.
We've never done music in Halki I'm afraid, just enjoy taking in the local noises. Well apart from the guy up the road this time who started hammering at 7am every day. Weird, if we were at home it would be really annoying but it seriously did'nt bother us and we soon slept through it after a day or so!

The church bells and hopefully Kiki playing the mandolin this year must definitely be high on the list

For us/me it's the sound of the 'band' (boys and girls playing brass instruments) arriving from Rhodes during the Festival of St John the Bapsist (apologies if ths is incorrect) but dispite the music being sometimes off key and abit random, the signficance makes my hairs stand on end. ........... oh that and listening to Steve Harley's 'all the man are hungry' at sunset, with a glass of Ouzo and with a foot danglin' in the sea. Priceless.

Yes Fatcat I am with you on that one, I think the whole thing with the band playing on the boat as it arrives is just beautiful. Must say though that I am really looking forward to hearing Kiki playing, really missed seeing her last year, her Mums taverna may have to be our first night methinks ;D

For me, its Stevie Winwood. Someone gave me a tape of his music when I worked there, and I played it all the time . Whenever I hear his stuff, it takes me right back there. I love just listening to the sounds around the harbour too, the everyday voices shouting in that Greek way to each other, and all the hustle & bustle day to day sounds around the harbour. And the sound of almost silence, sitting on a balcony, reading, and drinking ouzo/ fresh orange ;D ;D I can't wait! ;D

Been waiting for a music thread on here for ages.
For those of you who are regularly on Halki around end of June beginning July will know that I frequent Ftenigia and have deep discussions with Angelo about music.
Fleetwood Mac is one of our favourites although Dave Gilmour made a real impression last year!
As mentioned earlier Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings is a stunning piece to listen to but my favourite song is Speedway To Nazareth by Mark Knopfler! I listen to it on the Ferry from Kamiros and as I approach Halki it gets the emotions going!
