As soon as you arrive, ask someone to point you in the direction of "Bob". Your walk problems will be solved in a flash. You will return a physical wreck.

Seriously Mark, if you really want to do some extreme walking, Bob is your man. Have a look at his website: www.wildthymewalks.comEnjoy.

As sth says Bob has a good walking map on his site which I have found useful on my ramblings over the island. If you want some more detail let me the level of walk you want, road, track, sheep track or "my god thats steep"

We got back from Halki last week there is a brand new Hiking Map out. I got mine from Jane at Zifos for 5 Euros. It is an excellent map 1: 20,000, GPS compatable and there are several walks shown on the map. All landmarks and places of historical or geographic interest are shown. There is a relief map on the reverse and the map is of ordnance survey standard.

Good news. You will benefit from a relief map when walking with Bob - relief to make it back in one piece. ;D ;D ;D ;D

In an idle moment I have picked up this rather old thread. Over the years there have been many keen and dedicated walkers/hikers who have and still do visit Halki. Some of these walk and hike all over Europe. I know one American lady particularly well whom I first met on Halki in 1989. She hiked then and she hikes now. Usually two or three major trips worldwide annually. For the interest of any such minded person, there is an interesting walk this November (7th~20th). It is called "Walking the Masar". It is being led by writer, broadcaster and traveler Leon McCarron. A two week walk through history down the length of the Palestinian West Bank. Check it out on www.edge-expeditions.comLooks great, just wish my knees were up to the challenge!! I am given to understand there are only two places remaining.

Minimum required to make the figures stack up. Superb two weeks but I too am heading into decrepitude. The Gobi is just an idea at present as is Greenland!!

Funny thing is I originally read this thread as "Talking Wrecks"! Is this a Spoonerism, or a Freudian slip? (Dons tin hat and runs for cover!)
