There is an excellent website for Symi, worth looking at for the amazing photos posted every day, it is Symigreece.com

Off to Sainsbury's now but will take a look later today.
Symi always looks so beautiful in the brochure with it's superb Venetian harbour but I think there is a lack of decent beaches within distant of where most of the accommadation. Plus the dreaded daytrippers always put me off.

DH and I spent several happy hols pre-children on Symi in the 1980s. It was lovely then and still very quiet. You do have to get a boat to most of the beaches although Pedi and Nimborio are in walking distance of the town (bit further than Ftenagia and Pondamos though). I think it has changed a lot over the years and although we often talk of going back to see for ourselves the pull of Halki is too strong

Symi is well worth a visit - Pedi, Nos and Nimborio all very easy to get to without a taxi boat.
Day trippers are easily avoided and are only there for a couple of hours.
The smaller islands depend on day-trippers for survival - to wish them away will kill the economy.

. The smaller islands depend on day-trippers for survival - to wish them away will kill the economy. I know I am just a selfish git and hate having them descending on me and causing havoc
