That pontoon was and probably still is, owned by the owners of the Italian house behind Polymnia. When the original Patriarch was alive, and visiting annually, it was brought in and connected to the botom of the concrete ramp that runs down to the sea in front of the house. From there he and his retinue were ferried to and from his large yacht which was moored off in roughly the position you are referring to. His staff also used to swim from it although they have of course got a swimming pool at the villa.

I don't know anything about that pontoon, sth obviously knows the details! As for being on the pontoon when Lane Line ferry comes in, I suppose that won't happen any more now that LL is defunct. The ANEK ferry "Prevelis" may not be quite as big as the Lane Line one, but still manged to cause a stir earlier this month when it sank a small moored boat. The boat (with submerged outboard motor) was later recovered and pulled out at the yard near the hotel.

Muriman, Prevelis is actually marginally larger than both L.A.N.E vessels though that has probably nothing to do with the incident you mentioned.

At least this one allegedly sails at 7am and not 3am. Less likely to snooze my way round the dodecanese instead of getting off at Halki.
