Was anyone else staying on Halki in July 2003 when the Vitsentzos Cornaros went aground? At that time we were sitting on our balcony at the Dorothea Appartments when the ferry came into the harbour but instead of dropping anchor as usual it went ahead towards the shore and kept going until it came to a halt a very short distance from the villas....
There was a lot of reving but all to no effect. The people in the villas directly in front of the ferry were all evacuated by the police and eventually the ferry went astern and went a long way out to sea before returning to the harbour. Eventually everyone on board came ashore.
At about 1am the lorries started loading again and the ferry left harbour and peace was restored. Before it was allowed to sail the port police insisted on a divers inspection of the hull.

I wasn't there for that one but was there when one of the Lane Lines forgot to put the brakes on and reversed into the jetty!

Graeme, thats a great picture! I would love to see more on that theme ;D ;D Di, its funny but I remember there were an awful lot of people called Malaka, usually shouted after them, when I was last there too! |

Heather - you have to host pictures somewhere like photobucket ..once you have them hosted you can add the gif onto your signature ( you change it in your profile ) Pictures are the same ..host them and then you have to copy a code which will appear below your picture on photobucket and then paste that code into the reply box on the forum ....it does sound complicated but its not ..honest give it a go and if you've any probs give me a shout |
