Theodosia's mother Calliope, is still very much around. A strong and wise old lady. One old feature which has gone unmentioned was Flora's shop. Flora was the aunt of Yiannis in Costas. The shop was where Valandis & Elina's grill shop now is. It was really something, everything seemed to be in sacks. The kiosk was over near Costas in something that looked like a fishing boat's deckhouse. Maybe it was.

I don't care how long Halki has been a holiday destination. I am just grateful that it is. I went for the first time in 2001 on my own and have been going on my own ever since. The first time I went I fell in love with the place and I still feel the same about it. I am glad it's not everyone's cup of tea but it suits me perfectly, I started going twice a year a few years ago (May and October) and this year I am having an extra week at the start of July with a couple of friends. I've seen a few gentle changes over the years but it's still the place I want to go to on holiday, for me it's perfect.

my first time in Halki was in 1986 or 87, when I was the Laskarina rep. (I thought it was 86 but if ,as someone else said, 86 was Laskarinas first year then i think it must have been 87) I think the many glasses of ouzo with iced fresh orange have addled my memory slightly over the years! My office was a table in front of Costas, where I had to be for an hour or two most mornings. I would sit looking out over the harbour, watching the world go by. What a lovely way to spend the working day! Villa visits were twice a week, Angeli A & B were the grandest properties, but I dreaded the slog up to them, they were the highest properties! Are they still rented out? I suspect not , I havent heard anyone mention them. I only have one photo now, preparing the picnic on Alimnia ( my husband cleared out the garage and accidentally threw away a box containing all my old photos etc, I forgave him!)I went back 2 -3 times every year until 1992, with the arrival of twins, two stepchildren, and another arrival a year later! No money for Halki!I havent been back since, but in August we will be there , and I can show my family why its always been so special and so important to me. I cant wait for that magical moment when the harbour first comes into view, its so simply beautiful, doesnt that get to all of us every time? ;D

Thanks Liz. I really don't know if I will be laughing with excitement and expectation, or if I will have tears filling my eyes. Probably a mixture!

Kathy I cannot imagine how you are going to feel after all these years, it will definitely be very emotional. I am utter rubbish usually, not so bad when we arrive just a big lump in the throat but floods of tears when we leave even though I know i will be returning the following year, big sunglasses are essential to cover the face, nothing to do with the sun ;D ;D

I always cry ;D I cry on my way in ....and I cry on my way out ;D I've been known to 'well up'................. but thats probably due to the bright sunshine and cold beer making my eyes 'smart'....... yeah right !
