Harry, one thing you will find common to all regular visitors and ex.pats in Halki is a wonderful sense of humour. It is found everywhere and the comments above which you refer to as a "shame" are a simple part of it. Anyway, there is a car park, albeit mostly unused for anything other than a scrap yard. Who knows indeed if a cinema will or will not feature in the future. Nightclub'ish venues have been tried, though to date, failed. When I first set foot on Halki the one and only road had no surface and it would have been a "shame" had someone mentioned paved surfaces, street lighting, a Taverna at Ftengia, a port at Kania, a proper helicopter landing site, a supermarket (never to speak of two), a water taxi, round the island trips, day trippers and a host of other facilities too numerous to mention. The earlier posts were a joke my friend - lighten up a little.

Hi Harry, sth is right, whilst I can see how those comments may have looked they were most definitely printed in jest. I hope that when people are asking for information they can get a serious answer and that it is useful to them as in the case of yesterdays post, however a little lighthearted banter does not go amiss, just read the posts about the great snorkel debate, that started with a serious question and look at how that has ended !!!! ;D

And Harry, be careful those ladies don't lock on to you during their willy watching activities.

hi Ziggypuss - only just seen your post but I just wanted to add my own experience of travelling with Olympic - it may help others make up their minds if they haven't already done so. We travelled with them in 2008 and 2009 and were expecting cheap and cheerful basic accomodation which it was. We had KiKi studio first time which was minute and no real views. Very dodgy electrics etc and quite scruffy generally (not dirty though). I know someone previously had complained about that particular studio and took olympic to court. Last year stayed in Roulla - fab views but we had the end studio which was smaller than the rest and we fondly called it " the cupboard under the stairs". Sleeping was a mattress on a platform - very hot in Aug/Sept. The other 2 studios were more spacious but still basic. Our transfers were great - taxis both ways and no waiting but we had early morning flights.
We looked again for this year (I would still travel with Olympic if they had a good deal) but prices are no longer cheaper than Direct and most flights are now at night involving an overnight stay in Rhodes. Not to be recommended. People we spoke to last year didn't even get a room and had to sit around in a grotty hotel from 4 in the morning til the coach arrived to take them to the ferry. We met friends who stayed upstairs at the Kallioppi and loved it. Great views.
We are going with Direct this year and really looking forward to it.

Previous post should say 2008 and 2007 - we haven't been this year yet!

We've travelled with Olympic and had no trouble with flight times - we left Gatwick in daylight and arrived in daylight (the same day). It could depend on your departure airport.
