Good Morning everyone. We are booked to return to lovely Halki later this Summer. We have booked the top floor studio with Olympic Holidays in the Stamatia Studios. We know the village quite well but can’t place Stamatia. Can anybody provide directions from the harbour? The steps up to the top floor of the building look a little daunting, is there a handrail? Has anybody stayed there? Any tips, suggestions and photos much appreciated.
PS. If anyone can advise how to get my profile picture the right way up I’d be most grateful! 😆😆😆

Steve, I haven't stayed there but did have that top floor studio on my shortlist this year but, sadly, only the ground floor one had any availability. I used the search facility on here to find an old thread which described it as off the Pondamos road behind the doctor's surgery. There will be someone to greet you at the harbour and will give you directions or they may well walk you there (and transport your luggage in a truck no doubt). Stamatia does have a Facebook page but I couldn't see any photos on there showing the steps in detail so cannot answer the handrail question. Hopefully, someone who has stayed there will respond.
Re your profile image problem, I don't think there is anything you can do here to turn it. You'll need to delete that image and upload again (or a different one). Just click on Profile (below the big image at the top of the page) then on Edit details then Avatar. Then delete and upload one that's the right way up! Have a great holiday. Regards, David.

Hi David, thanks for your reply, I heard that it is behind the school but still couldn’t place it. It’s not really important because, as you know, nothing’s very far! If it’s on the way to Pondamos that’s great as it’s one of our favourites. I do have some mobility problems (two metal hips) but I’m sure I will cope. I have tried deleting my profile picture and uploading a new one but still seems to come out upside down. I’ll have to ask one of the grandkids! 😆😆😆

Hey Steve If you open the link below, it'll open a 360⁰ aerial view of the harbour. maps.app.goo.gl/6CfyUkahFhZkt2788If you scroll/zoom to the concrete structure up on the hillside above the harbour then pan down slightly to the left you'll see the Stamatia. 3 floors, painted white with blue door and window frames. It is quite high up in the village but the views will be amazing. I hope the link is helpful Cheers Tom and Rose

Blimey it is quite a trek but, as you say, the views should be fantastic and plenty of physio for my hips! I think we were in Kefalos at the same time as you last month and thoroughly enjoyed your daily blog! Cheers, Steve.

Hi Steve
Glad to have been of some help. If we stayed up there we'd need oxygen by the time we walked up from the harbour. We did the old castle a few years ago and it took 2-3 days for our legs to start working again properly. To say the we're aching would be a bit of an understatement. Thanks for the kind words about my reports. There should be a few on here too 😁
Where did you stay in Kefalos by the way?
Cheers Tom and Rose

Only shot I have of that building is from 2017, see my post for the Halki III album (Quiet Corners). It's an angled shot but it give you an o/a view of the setting - file ref is K3II-110717-011. The church below is Aghios Apostilo, my shots of which are in another of my 2017 Halki albums - the main one.

Thanks Steve, I’ve found the picture of Stamatia hiding behind a tree 😆. Fantastic photos by the way.

Hi Tom, I don’t know about oxygen, I think I’m going to need replacements for my hip replacements 😆
We stayed at the Kontessa Apartments in Kefalos which, despite the negative reviews on Tripadvisor are great. They have a fabulous pool and are central for all the bars and restaurants. Views over the bay from the first floor are amazing. We would definitely stay there again

Hey Steve
We we're at the Stenna, left at the end of your little road, follow it up and around for about 200 yards. There is a very handy short cut through past some other apartments that brings you out by the Galini taverna. Very handy and meant we didn't need to walk all the way around to go to the shop.
I think the Stamatia are definitely too high up for us. We've stayed at the Villa Nina a few times. Olympic have since dropped it. Last year we stayed at the larger of the two parts of Villa Chrysodimi. Next year we've booked privately at the Villa Marigo, just next door to our old haunt the Villa Nina. Halki really does get under your skin doesn't it? 😁
Cheers Tom and Rose

Yes Tom it certainly does. We have been travelling to Greece and her islands for 35 odd years and everywhere has its own character. We’re not so keen on the famous ones like Santorini and Mykonos but we love Tilos and Halki. Kefalos is great but maybe a few too many Brits! Halki is so much more cosmopolitan and whilst I hate the term ‘real Greece’……….😊😊😊
