Hi all! We are travelling to Halki for the first time end of May and trying to book flights. Originally wanted to fly out of Exeter or Bristol, but looks like Gatwick is most likely. Can't seem to find reliable ferry times and need to know how long to allow for tranfer from airport to ferry. Hoping to travel out on a Wednesday and return on the Saturday ten days later to have a few days to explore Rhodes. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Hi Deborah, I would allow an hour to get from Rhodes airport to Kamiros Scala in a taxi, the local ferries ran last year at approx 5pm and 6pm according to flight times, the 5pm one is used by Nissia and the other one by Thomas cook/Direct Greece and they obviously wait for their clients. Independant travellers can use either ferry, the crossing takes about 1hr 15mins. Hope this is of some help, ask away if you need to know anything else

I dont think you will get flights from Bristol or Exeter at the right times this year, we live in Cardiff and are having to go from Gatwick again much to my annoyance, there is a 7am flight from Birmingham and flight prices look like they are dropping now, not sure where you live but that may help.

Thanks for the info! The more I dig, it does seem that Gatwick is the best answer - also with a 7 am flight. We booked the Villa ages ago so now I need to sort the flights so we can start really looking forward to it!

Carol has given you all the facts but I would like to wish you a great holiday.
Hope you love Halki as much as we all do.
You might find you don't want those few days in Rhodes after you have had a taste of Halki ;D ;D

hi, we are out from Gatwick on 27/05 7.50 am leaving us ample time to get to the ferry, staying for a month this year -strong need to chill, but have concerns over the harbour, will the building works be completed?

Hi Roy, apparently they just need a couple of dry weeks to finish so hopefully they will get that between now and May, I will try and get an update this week ;D

Only 10 days to go - I can't believe it (having booked the house about 18 months ago!) We are flying out of Gatwick 7.00 on 27th May - anyone else? Still somewhat twitched about sorting taxis & ferries seeing so much different info elsewhere on net. Very reassuring to see so many others not having problems!

Deb, see the posting I've just put on Ferry Times and Tranfers and Getting to the Port. Your 0700 flight (which I guess is First Choice?) will give you ample time for taxi transfer to Kamira Skala - if anything, you will have to wait for quite a long time for the first ferry and will be able to have a leisurely late lunch. I suggest you leave your baggage on the quayside near the moored ferries, within sight of the taverna, make yourself known to the guys on the ferries but wait until you see signs of activity and hoots from the ship's hooter before you commit yourself as to which one to take. The Nikos Express is usually the first one away, but this can vary if they are doing day trips for German visitors to Rhodes. It might be helpful for you to know that this week the ferry fare for independent travellers was 10 euros each way.
Note: what I've said above assumes that you are travelling independently and paying your own ferry fare - is that so? Also, if you are with Nissia the arrangements may well be different, as I think they may put you on the second ferry, I'm not sure about that.
