Sat in Maria's taverna last night and surprised to see the Nissos Halki sailing in at about 10.30 pm. We were told that they were bringing the bee hives over from Rhodes. We have been visiting Halki for ten years and had never heard of this happening. Apparently they bring the hives over during the night to keep the bees calm, they stay on the island for about 2 months taking advantage of the herbs on the mountain side and then are taken back the same way.

Yes we have seen this a few times , its best to stay away from the hives till they settle down , a local lady was stung extremely badly some years ago

Believe it was Kiki's Mother. Hives used to be pitched on the way to the Monastery.
