Firstly I want to thank Liz and Steve for the test information which allowed us to make the decision to make the journey. Speaking of which our flight over was full.Tui made a big thing of mask wearing on the plane and it looked as if everyone complied. While there is quite a bit of paperwork to complete, it is all straightforward and can be done well in advance. One good change is that when you complete the Greek plf form you get your QR code straight back so no panic waiting until midnight the day before travel like we had to do last year! On arrival we were quickly through passport control and onto the health check desks where they looked at the vaccine passport and at code before welcoming us to Greece. luggage quickly collected and we were out into the Greek sunshine. We travelled with Olympic and were transferred to Kamiros and onto our first Mythos๐. We were booked on the Sebbeco 6pm and it wasn't our smoothest crossing.
After a lovely dinner at Kikis it was an early night after our 2.00 am start.
We started our daily walk over to Kania and was surprised to be met with a TARMAC road all the way through. I am sure it makes for easier driving, especially for the mopeds who had to choose the smoothest path through the ruts, bit it isn't nice to look at and makes the walk less pleasant. The old road sort of blended in with the scenery and gave a rural setting. The new road is like a black scar cutting across the landscape. Kania is just as beautiful tho and as ever we received a warm welcome.
Another sign of things to come over by the water treatment plant they are building an array of solar panels.
Last night we were surprised at the amount of people on the island. The harbour front bars and restaurants were buzzing. We intended to eat at Black Sea but they were full and Tomaso said it was like August. We ate instead at Babis, who benefitted from the black sea being full by picking up trade from people being turned away and pretty soon Babis was full too.
Everything here is perfect and I'm so glad we made the effort to come back this year.

Shame about the lumpy crossing but once you step off the ferry all is well. Was checking the weather forecast earlier and it's due to be wall to wall sunshine for the next couple of weeks at least. Good news about the changes to the testing requirements for return to the UK too, not that you'll be thinking about returning just yet as you have to partake in some obligatory relaxation for a while. So jealous ๐ Enjoy..........

Just back from Kania and every sunbed was taken and people sitting on the rocks, both sides and top part of the restaurant full. Fortunately we got there early and bagged our place.

Our trip is nearly over as we wait for our tests to be carried out. Things we will remember about this time on Halki, getting ready for the evening with intermittent power cuts and wondering if we would get dinner. We were in the Black Sea when the power went off, candles were brought out which was very romantic, but our dinner wasn't! Then Tomasi walked in with a battery - he has a back up generator so all was well. He was the only restaurant with lights (remember that for future visits). During the night we were woken by ice falling in the fridge, still no electricity. We opened the balcony door to check everyone was off and were met by such a wonderful sight in the night sky with no light pollution. We spent some time standing there just taking in the beauty.
Another day we were told that there would be no boats in our out due to a weather warning. Kania told us they would be closed and the sunbeds tied down so we walked around close to the harbour and other beaches, both of which had their umbrellas tied down. Sitting in Kikis with a lunchtime giros everything seemed calm, but set foot on the path to ftenia or higher up the village and we were nearly blown off our feet.
There was a wedding in the village, someone who works in Theodosia. Costa's was lit up with golden fairy lights which looked lovely and we were great to an evening of Greek music and dancing, which was great to see again after so long of them being able to celebrate in this way.
So many people we have met this time have said they have already booked for May and September and I hope we will be back next year too.
