Forget the castle, forget the monastary, tackle something easier and much closer to home. Looking out from the old Hiona (on the right as you enter the harbour) to your left and a little back is a 'saddle hill' - 2 hills connected by a slope, the right hand hill is much higher and if climbed 'early' AM when the Lane Lines boat comes in you will get a great perspective of the whole area. Easy climb, takes about 15 minutes and you have great views - nice in the evening as well. Back into town ready for a beer and hardly broken into a sweat all in under 20 minutes. My kind of walking

You see that sounded lovely but when I re-read it there are words in there that I just can't get to grips with ......like 'climbed early ' ;D ;D

I see what you mean...... 'climb' and 'easy' do not fit well together.
Change 'climb' for 'skipping up the hill'........... ;D

I prefer the ride up to the monastery on the bus/van/motorbike and the gentle walk down personally. I'm definitely a downhill sort of gal. Well everyone keeps telling me I'm going downhill rapidly so I assume that's what they mean!

I'm with you Lynn, walking uphill should be avoided when possible. There's enough exercise walking up and down the steps around the village. On second thoughts maybe I am lazy but hey that's what holidays are for.
