Have just heard that Nick has had to remove all sunbeds from the raised “beach” area at Ftenagia and is not happy. Nor are we!! Apparently he has now put beds where the chickens used to be. What’s going on?

Yes James, that is what I have heard. Have now seen photos - doesn’t look good and what will happen at Hannah beach?

Jill, presume you mean Kania ? I'm afraid I don't know, perhaps someone there now will post the answer.

Have just read that the Ministries of Finance and Interiors have ruled that sun beds should be 5 meters from the sea instead of the 3 meters as previously ruled. Presumably that will affect Kania too. What a shame - I don’t like change but I guess there is no other option.

Hi guys,
Just a few words to let you know what is going on. For the past 3 years the auctions that were taking place every year, by the town hall, for the rental of the beaches for sunbed use, have stopped. This is due to the changes made to the law about the proximity of sunbeds to the sea, as James has already mentioned. This means that for the past 3 years we were putting sunbeds on the beach “illegally” and this is why we have, till now, received two lawsuits and a huge fine by the Real estate Service!!! For the past three years my dad was constantly trying to find a solution…Asking everybody he could think of for information on the subject in hand… a way around this problem… but in vane… Now we are forced to abide by the law……. We are allowed only two umbrellas because of the restaurant. So now we have to implement a solution very similar to what another beach has been doing for many years now…. We have to use the land we own, where we used to have the chickens. The area has been transformed accordingly and we hope that you will firstly understand that we have no other choice right now, although we are still trying to find a solution, and secondly we hope that you will find our efforts to your liking.
BR, Christina

There must be a way round it ? .. what if you 'borrow' a sunbed from a 'friend' and bring it yourself

There must be a way round it ? .. what if you 'borrow' a sunbed from a 'friend' and bring it yourself There's nothing to prevent you from bringing your own umbrella and sunbed to the beach. The law is about the "business use" of the beach. If I'm saying that correctly.... If anybody wants to use the beach for any kind of business purposes, they have to abide by what the law states.

I saw pics of the new sun bed area at Ftenagia last week. I think it looks great. Looking forward to seeing it/using it in July - it is fairly similar to what they did over at Pondamos a few years ago. And well done to Nik and the guys at Ftenagia for getting this done. It's a hell of a lot of work.

I get that Christina and I wouldn't dream of bringing my own stuff .. It was a tongue in cheek comment .. I'm sure its been a big job and I look forward to seeing it in a couple of weeks
