According to my new 2nd edition Direct Greece brochure that was posted through my letter box recently, Pondamos, the only sandy beach, is approached only by small boats.!!
Furthermore, car hire is not available (true) 'there is now a taxi you may wish to use'! What happened to the bus? This point would be essential on an island that has no cars I would have thought. Why is it not in the brochure?
Finally the blurb suggests that Halki nightlife is low-key (true) whilst a boat trip to Rhodes presents a wider variety of amenities. (Again true) but does not mention that an overnight stay in Rhodes would be required plus the attendant travel arrangements to and from KS unless of course one used the notorious Spilliani.
In my view this is a very poor brochure not consistent with the old Direct Greece staff who knew about Halki. However, Thomas Cook have kept a low profile in this brochure their company only being mentioned on flight details page 108 and in the booking conditions smallprint on page 114. Wednesday flights from Gatwick and Manchester are TCX (Thomas Cook), Manchester Saturday is British Midland, Newcasle Wednesday is Jet2.Com and Edinburgh Wednesday is Monarch.
Finally I note by deduction that the early 0750 flight from Gatwick will probably have to wait for the arrival of the Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh flights before onward transport to Kamiros Scala. The ferry will probably leave sometime after 1800 local. No change from 2008 then.
I wish you all a Happy New Year and tender my good wishes to those booking through TC and those traveling independently.
Purely from the adventurous aspect I plan to fly to Athens and then take the ferry. I am aware that it will take longer but am keen to try it before my body declares me redundant!
Any hints from 'galaxy travelers' would be most welcome.
One positive inclusion in the brochure is the newly appointed Nikolaos Villa. It looks very amenable and looks to be somewhere to the rear of the school. Ideal for everywhere I would have thought and a very welcome addition.
Those early to Halki have a Mythos for me. Say hello to Petros, Thomaszy and Yianni at Costas and tell the parrot he talks too much!

Yes, it's interesting isn't it j90?
I'm particularly looking forward to trying out the new peeble beach at Flengia, and the one at Kani. Anyone know where they are?
Obviously short of proof readers in the holiday brochure industry.
