There are 3 on Halki. 2 are 'maintained' and 1 has been 'abandoned' - phraseology might not be quite right but it conveys the right impression.
I have photographed 1, so no prizes for knowing where it is - it's on the road side below Chorio and before the s bends start, and it records a vision, not a death.
So here's the little quiz to get the grey cells working or to provoke a bit of extra wandering if you're on the island:
1. Where is the other maintained memorial and what/who does it commemorate?
2. Where is the third and abandoned memorial?
No walking beyond the village limits required to find either or both.
Have fun. Rain's just started here - 40 days and a wake up before we're on our way!

I believe not all roadside 'memorials' are memorials .. if that makes sense .. some are for travellers and often contain oil for lamps ,candles. and matches and a picture of a saint for good measure

I think you'll find that the bits and pieces in the bottom are there as reserves for the primary shelf where the commemorative images etc are to be found. As with the one on the road up to Chorio, these roadside memorials, or perhaps more accurately shrines, aren't always about a loss of a family member.

There are also however memorials, some maintained and others forgotten, to remember lost family members in the same way we see bunches of flowers and occasionally photographs "at accident sites" in this country. They tend to get forgotten when immediate relatives pass on, leave the area or/and memories fade.
